First and Third Person shooter Games thread

@Infinitus, well it's probably your own fault, you're not supposed to go up there yet, why would you be in such a hurry right there? There's like, infinity of other places to go to until you advance the story that far.

It's the freaking top of the world! Of course I wanted to go up there. Besides, I shouted, and was able to go through... wasn't like I walked through a wall or anything:p

About bugs... there is one that I run into with killing guards all the time... they drop their shields, and they get stuck in the air.

I suppose you'll tell me to leave witnesses alive, and not kill the guards next:eg::na:

Still working my way back up to the point where the game broke... should be there tonight:)

Side note, the new assassin's creed video is AWESOME:D

As far as FPS games go Battlefield 3 is fantastic, its what I've been spending most of my time doing lately:). MW3 lacks everywhere from the poorly improved graphics right down to the 15second lifespan you have in multiplayer because of all the kill streaks... Soooo many went and bought MW3 just because it was the next game in the franchise, makes me sick. I actually weigh my options based on graphics, gameplay, etc.. I liked what I saw of BF3 before release and I LOVE what I've seen since the release. I recommend it to all! And if you have an Xbox 360, I recommend you play battlefield 3 with me sometime. :)

Haha, ofcourse I won't.

I have not experienced this floating shield bug you speak of... Everything that's dropped by enemies stays dropped as it should be.

In fact I have not experienced a lot of bugs at all. Only the one I mentioned above, and once when casting some Sparks magic there were no effects around the hands of the character, only the enemy lighting up, but that fixed itself when I next re-selected the spell.

Nothing major really.

I am yet to try out the new Assassin's Creed Revelation (which I bought an original, by the way! So proud! :D OK to be fair my brother bought it...), or Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3.

I kind of stopped caring about all those mainstream trendy games once the Mass Effect 3 release date became known. To keep me occupied until then - Skyrim.

Lol, well aside from skyrim I also bought GTA liberty city episodes, so that should tide me over for a bit.

I do know about the spell bug... also happens to me all the time, but to be honest doesn't bother me too much. Has happened most to me with flames/fire magic.

Now I know this isn't a bug, but it annoys the hell out of me... you can't kill kids! Believe me, I tried:p

Not that I want to kill kids, but if they witness a crime... it's a problem.

Well you are a cruel person :na:

It's even a wonder they have included kids in the freeroam gameplay, many game developers hesitate to do that because, to quote wikipedia,
"...Prevent foul-minded players from killing them"

You might find that there are no kids in any of the GTA games, or pretty much any game where you can kill children.
I think Bethesda included them to add realism to the game world (which is incredibly detailed), just prevented the player from killing them.

Now, if they've witnessed a crime... you are a poor Assassin.
(kidding, ofcourse :p)

I never understood the no kids in games. People are all just matter when it comes down to it, if i can kill an armed police officer begging me to just go out peacefully in GTA or play as a Taliban f*ck in Medal of Honor and go shoot US marines, why don't they take that extra little step to realism? It's only a videogame, and because it is only a videogame my bullets do not discriminate..

I'm a great assassin actually, but sometimes people tick me off, and I let of steam by plugging an arrow in their forehead:na:

Of course the impromptu homicides then result in small massacres when I sanitize the scene:evil:

I'm hoping for a mod or console command to either erase kids from the game, or to make them mortal.

If that's the case, good news for you - Bethesda plans on releasing a Creation Kit (known as Construction Kit from previous games) for Skyrim, so we should expect billions of metric tons of hard drives full of Skyrim modifications.

'Till then, enjoy the game, guys! I know I will!

Even as it is, the game is great!

Btw, try playing as a gnome... console command "player.setscale .2" followed by console command "player.setav speedmult 500".... one will downsize you, the other will speed you up (since size effects speed).

The FPS view is not affected by size change, so switch to third person and have fun:D

I'm familiar with the mods... about 4gb of mods and enhancements are loaded into my oblivion install.... in fact I use a dragon in oblivion to get around:)

Haha well... to each his own.

I prefer not to mod the ever loving piss out of my games.
For example, I have already stated that my favourite mod for Max Payne 2 was Cinema 2.0.

It's because I do not like mods that turn Max into say, Neo or Punisher, and I don't like mods that add dragons to Oblivion or add anything that's not logically consistent into the game. Mods that I do like, do not take away from original feel of the game, merely enhance it a bit, tiny details worked out that developers do not have time or money to bother with.

Well... in a bit of a marathon gaming session I finished off the main Skyrim quest last night.

I don't know why, but it has left me disappointed.

Something about skyrim just doesn't feel as grand as oblivion/cyrodil did.

The cities and specific locations just feel smaller, and the game universe feels... idk, just not as populated.

I still have a ton of side quests to play through like thieves guild, companions, dark brotherhood, and mages guild, but so far skyrim is a bit of a letdown.

To me it feel like a huge setup for the next chapter (I would say more but don't want to spoil it for anyone) so hopefully that's exactly what it is, and we'll see a massive expansion to this universe with a future release.

About the mods... I will be implementing a bunch of them, although I haven't decided whether to hold off until the next patch.

Skyrim is an AMAZING platform to build on IMO, but as a standalone game, having played through the main quest... overall rating of 7.5/10.

Speaking of marathon gaming sessions,

I am level 50 with Destruction, Smithing and Enchanting on 100, One Handed and Light armor skill at around 90 and rest not much important, total gaming time to this post - 67 hours (says in save game file), and finished a LARGE amount of quests,

I have to say that main quest storyline might not be as impressive as I have expected, nevertheless it could have been worse (and I've seen worse), so there I do agree with you.

However, I must also say that side questlines are about as equally impressive as main one, finishing the College of Winterhold questline and Companions guild and pretty much everything you can do in the game is incredibly impressive, well done.

I do disagree on the world feeling less populated, it's quite the opposite I might add - world feels actually very much alive and offers a lot of locations, each town is specific in architecture, it's people, overall feel.

And I really do must point out that, as the game developers said in the "Making of" trailer, little details that matter are incredibly polished up.

My brother plays, wears a full set of Ebony Armor (very rare and powerful), and a random town guard comments something along the lines of "Woah, Ebony armor, very nice to see". I wear full Glass Armor set, some other guard comments "Light armor, faster on your feet... smart".

Pull out a weapon, guard asks "Is there a problem?".

Random people commenting, example - I use "Detect life" spell in streets of a town (seen as blue flames in user's hand), child says "I wish I could play with flames like that!"

All of such details that really make the game, are there.
Even if the main storyline might finish on one afternoon of dedicated playing, it's but a tiny fraction of entire game.

I really gotta get some screenshots. My brother has a full Daedric Armor set, looks incredibly nice. Glass Armor is better for my character (Battle mage), also looks equally as good. Spells well thought out, useless ones gotten rid of, skill development improved very much.

There is quite a few bugs I've ran across though.

For example, my brother is playing an Argonian character, and whenever he uses a Blacksmith forge, the animation in the background is wrong - the yellow-hot metal the character is supposed to hammer is oriented completely wrong, and appears to be not animated at all. He transfered the save game over to my laptop and same thing happened, while my character both on my laptop and transfered on the PC has a normal animation.

I happened to clear the cave before a quest which requires you to kill certain character in a cave, which resulted in me getting stuck. Had to use console commands to progress the quest one step further.
Also happened when character Septimus approached a book Ohgma Infinum, everything just got stuck and I also had to use console, for both me and my brother's campaign (I guess that one happens a lot).

For everybody else, when Septimus approaches the book, and finishes his speech and then, nothing happens and you cannot talk to either him, or use the book, use this console command:

"setstage DA04 55"
DA04 is code of the quest, 55 is the quest stage (will take it one step further).

Back to playing! :D

The attention to detail in the game is phenomenal. Perhaps the only graphics area that needs attention IMO is the snow, and I only see the grid line patten because I disable collisions and zoom all over:p

I have noticed some of that same commentary.... like for example if you start messing around with spells in a town... without actually hitting anyone, guard comes up and asks to stop... that was an awesome touch:p

I'll get back to my final rating after the other side quests... there are a lot of them, so that should help.

I'll stand by what I said though... I think the game is in a lot of ways a setup to the expansion pack in 6 months to a year.

In the second rerun through the game I didn't bother to level up the skills... I cheated... didn't feel like redoing it all because my original character is now retired due to a bug.

Most annoying bug is in using dual wield weapons... for some reason if I use the left hand attack too fast after using the right hand... I get stuck... can't attack anymore until I either switch weapons or put them away and back on. It started after I began using daedric maces.

My total game time is definitely nowhere near 67 hours... probably around 20-30. So I'll get back to you on the rest.

There are some very cool mods I can't wait to try out either, and some setting changes I was holding off on... like for example free floating camera in the map, along with the ability to zoom a whole lot more:D

And oh yeah... I want a house in sovengard, not some shitty hovel in whiterun!:p

Sovngarde is epically done :D When I first arrived there, I stared at the sky alone for like a minute.

About dual weilding, when I weild two swords I have no bugs what so ever, and two spells are also perfect.

However, I have found minor annoyance when I use a sword and a healing spell (Fast Healing, one that requires charge-up), and if I use a Shout right after the spell, or perhaps vice verse - I am unable to cast the spell and Shout again, and sword attacks are typical downward strike while standign still, as if the spell is currently being cast.

When I do want to cast a spell, it says "You cannot do this action while shouting" and if attempting to Shout, nothing happens.

Quick fix is to open up the Favourites menu, unequip the spell, equip it again, and everything works normally. No in-game time is lost, since menu pauses the entire thing.

However, that was not a problem for me for last 20 or so hours... guess it goes away after a while. Or perhaps my spells and swords are too powerful for bugs to come near 'em :D

Fire Katana (Legendary) - 67 points of damage, + 15 points fire damage Enchantement,
Dragonbane (Legendary) - also a katana, I'm sure you found that one at the Sky Haven Temple

And all of Expert level Destructon spells cast completely mana-free, no cheats involved, I made it to Enchanting level 100 and I forged and I enchanted a perfect armor.

It would be high time for somebody to start posting their Skyrim characters right about now. I'll go fire up FRAPS, get back to you in a minute or two hours.

EDIT - A'ight.

Been wondering a little :D

A perfect morning to kick some ass...

This is the full Glass set:

Now, I had this before, instead of main Armor it's "Master robes of Destruction", and instead of helmet it's Morokai mask, which coupled with perks in Restoration, resulted in my Magicka regeneration rate being near 400% faster, that is, my 350 points of magica pool regenerated from empty to full in 6 seconds... anyway

Besides, trench coats are just so badass.

EDIT 2 - Well, went through the trouble of resizing each picture to 1280x800 to have the fit nice in this forum, to have them resized to 744xsomething by Photobucket so now they appear too small. Oh well.

Nice look:D

I'll get around to grabbing a few to post as well.

You're right, of course I found the Blades Katana... but I actually like to dual wield two maces... doing over a 100 damage with each... so long as I can close in, none one being in the game lasts long:eg:

Also using a daedric bow of petrifying... with the sneak bonus and head shot, 90% of the time targets go down in one shot. Mammoths take 3-4 shots... bitch to run backwards and keep shooting though:p

Love the look of the armor... I think it's about time I got around to making some armor and weapons myself:D

Markarth is definitely one of my favorite cities btw. It does have that "grand" feeling I missed since cyrodil.

Thanks, man! :D

I also recently found Ebony Blade, which is an ebony made two-handed no-dachi, commonly misnames "Dai-katana", that is, very very long katana. No-dachi literally means "Great Sword", part of "dachi" or long blades. I miss Tanto and Wakizashi weapons from Morrowind, classified as "shoto" - short sword. Well you do have variety of daggers but ... :D I'd give anything for Daisho set in Skyrim.

Unfortunately, Two Handed Weapons skills is fairly low, so the sword is very weak, besides it requires that you kill people who trust you to make it stronger.

Nevertheless, works epically on weaker enemies to train Two Handed.

I just recently spawned myself a Daedric sword, which I enchanted with;
+37 Fire Damage
+30 Drain Health,
Total damage just over 150.
Total number of charges is only 55 but souls are quiet common, if you know what i mean.

Will grab screenshots later!
