K, so, probably the computer geeks will be able to answer this best for me, but:

What is the highest flow fan you can get in the 80mm form factor, less than 25mm thick? Absolute highest flow, don't give a crap if it's 12V or 24V (Though 24V preferred, but not as common), also don't give a crap how damn noisy it is. Just need insane airflow.

Yep

If I can't find a "computer" fan that'll work for this, I'll resort to a EDF, but the EDF + and ESC comes to around $40, and I figured I could get a pretty decent high flow computer fan for that.

As I always suggest when you don't care about noise and want to save some money. Crapio fans! Any idea if those would work? I figure you could just use an array of 4. People would think you are riding a jet powered scooter!

Yeah, considered those little beasts at first, but they're a bit too deep at around 37mm

I remembered the Jamicon fan I have in my laser projector, so gonna give that a spin, it moves a hell of a lot of air! Best I've ever seen anyway

These move the most air of any plastic fans around that size that I'm aware of..

features to look for when harvesting fans that indicate higher quality or performance:

counter-spun stationary fins
high count of fins on the fan
bearings. Sometimes the nicer fans have nicer bearings, and the casings for nicer bearings look more "technical"


Then again, fans are relatively cheap. I guess I'm just a bit cheaper

Whoops sorry Things. I miss measured those crappio fans (didn't zero my caliper) 38mmx28mm. Is there a way to make room for the extra 3mm? These things are cheap, and they move a ton of air, plus you can run them in 2s2p for 24V

80mm and less than 25mm thick? I don't see you getting a computer fan with a good CFM at that size.

Thanks guys,

I'm trying the nice Jamicon fan that was in my laser projector, and it seems to move a pretty decent amount of air. It really doesn't help that the ambient temp ATM is over 30C, bet if I lived somewhere with sub 0 temps ATM, the motor wouldn't even get warm

Sure wouldn't have that problem here. I'd be more worried about moisture getting in the motor and freezing :crackup:
