yeah i hot glued pretty much all the wires including the one around the resistor there so there is no contact between the aluminum & the circuit. I followed kenom's guide for pretty much everything except using the plastic tubing, hot glue works just as well.
 





The aluminum foil isn't going to work because there are too many air pockets left between the module and the aluminum which prevent the heat from transferring itself from the module to the foil. Don't be cheap :P get a chuck of aluminum, drill a hole through it and press the aixiz module in with a vice. (it needs to have a tight fit)
 
Kendall -- The foil is bad news. Poor connection and Poor heat conduction especially at 300 mA !! You should get around 190 mW with your diode. You need a better solid mounting.

i cant believe hes trying to sell that laser "as is" in his online store. is this his first attempt? and hes selling it? his first born? lol!
I think there should be a little more quality and experience behind something like this when your selling it. i think hes asking like $70.
 
yeah i didn't realize aluminum foil wouldn't be good. im getting some heatsinks made and will only sell one's with the heatsinks in them. i took the foil out based on a tip from senkat that it would be better with no Al foil.

Im repeating what kenom said when i was inquiring about running an open can at 400ma in this flashlight and this way i wouldn't need any resistors because the natural current of these flashlights are ~400ma. What if you use a capacitor to turn the 5v down to 3v? Or like an LM317
 
Just to throw this out there, I am running a Sony long open can with the AMC7135, 350 ma output board from DX, throw a cap on the input side and thats all you need. I did make a heat sink from aluminum, 1/2 inch thick by 1 inch in diameter, installed the rear half of the Aixis module with thermal epoxy, several minutes duty cycle on and no noticable heat to module. Look at the pics, you need to insulate the heat sink / module from the case ground as the 7135 controls the ground side of the circuit. This setup should work well in the Dorcy jr, this is a Dorcy tactical gear host. CMD

Sorry no vids, no vid camera and my beam shots stink on ice. Any suggestions on getting a good beam shot ? CMD
 
You can set it for long exposure, or you can take the laser outside on a foggy night if you don't have a fog machine, you can also go in your bathroom, turn on your shower and fill it with steam. ;D
 
I'll try the steam route and post in multimedia if it goes well.
The Sony optiarc dvd drives are $28.00 delivered from newegg, a perfect match for the 7135's and diode extraction takes less than 5 minutes. This is an easy solution to driver problems and we need a diode any way. CMD   8-)
 
Oh yeah that reminds me, someone posted a coupon code to get free shipping on newegg, but due to the downtime that thread is gone.
I'm sure whoever posted it will repost it though.
 
yea i finally got around to opening up my drive i got, the diode in it is great i love it, its awesome.
 
is that a 1/4 watt resistor ? finding a 6 ohm has been an issue. I am assembling all my parts to make my first burner. I am going by the video off meta.

if folks need a 6 ohm 1/4 watt resistor I sure could ship them some but it would cost ya $2 per resistor (gas costs as the dealer is all the way cross town) and shipping of $1.41
