Dorcy Jr. Diy RED ... Please help!!!

is that a 1/4 watt resistor ? finding a 6 ohm has been an issue. I am assembling all my parts to make my first burner. I am going by the video off meta.
thanks

Dave

yeah radioshack is pretty much useless for low ohm value resistors. i found a local electronics store and they sell 5.1 ohm 1watt resistors for pretty cheap and they work great, i'm going up there tomorrow to buy some more actually if you want some. i could ship it (or multiple ones) to ya in an order from my site if you want :)

pm me if ur interested

So something other than a 1/4 watt will fit ? I was thinking it had to be small.

I've used 1/8 watt as well. anything below 1/4 watt works good.

another diode died. It was from stonetek, it lasted 30 days just like the others. diddnt use is too much. used primaries. and im pretty sure it was a new one from the good batch, im still using a 10ohm resistor. What the hell is goin on?

well, there's no doubt that running them at over 150ma or so is driving them harder than they intended.

I honestly don't know how long these things last at the current I've been setting them at cause I usually sell them.

Not a clue what to say....

Again!! this one last 32 days with moderate use and a 10ohm resistor. any suggestions?

don't leave it on for as long, or turn it off more frequently. a 10ohm resistor should be plenty enough to scale the current down..... if you don't want to turn it off you could just use more resistance.

I'd say you've got a bad flashlight, do you have a multimeter to check voltage and current?

May I interject ? I may be way out of line here or not grasping the thread completely, but here goes.

Doc Lava makes some very nice drives, the flexdrives. I have used flexdrives on LOC red diodes and they perform exceptionally; I have as yet to kill a diode with them. I run the reds @ 425 Ma's with a good heat 'sink.

Daniel is making some really neat heat 'sinks, Big Chunks for the MXDL, Tactical Chunks for the Dorcy tactical model and He is putting the final spit and polish on the Dory Jr 'sink, the Jr Chunk.

In my humble opinion, if you were to use a prefab driver and an extremely efficient" Chunk " heat 'sink the results might be more to you're liking.

Doc Lava will preset the current to what ever you desire, and that is a good idea because those things are tiny.

Like I said, just my opinon and I could be wrong. CMD

WOW CMD,
Havt seen you in a while. this thread was originaly meant to be for the red laser dorcy mod.
But hey! Lets do a blue (violet) one!!!!!!!!!! yaaaayyyy
do we have a shopping list????

Not trying to hijack the thread, the reds with the flexdrives are easy and quick to build. I can build an LM 317 driver and I have tried AMC7135's but the flexdrives are really convenient and I am naturally lazy !
I have always machined my own "sinks and am eager to try out Daniels products. I can finally get a real " store bought " 'sink, I will be right uptown !!
I am just excited about the violets, the PHR's will be my first entry into the blue area.

I have been lurking around the forum, taking it all in. I have contributed to a thread here :

;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey CMD.... I think I've seen you somewhere before.... ;)

When are those "Chunks" going to be ready for the general public... :-? :-?
