Heat sink?? please?? idea :-?

Did you read my post about the locking collar? i believe they can be picked up at any hardware stores they look like this:

For a ghetto heat sink, just buy a whole bunch of washers, drill them to the size of your aixiz module, glue them together with thermal epoxy and press your module into the new heat sink. ;D

cbrian, these diodes DO need a heat sink, any diode does when running it at high a high current. Mike only said he didn't use a TEC, but it seems impossible for him to run the diode at 400mA alone with the aixiz module, it's possible but the diode would get really hot and I'm sure it would die by running it for 4 hours without any kind of cooling.

Yeah your right, i was just going to mention the washer idea if no one else did. I remembered it in school today.

here is my heatsink for my dorcy jr's

How did you make that? Did you use a lathe or did you just find a tube and cut it to the required length?

i have aluminum and i grinded around it and filled down the hole for my axiz modual

Woot woot! successfully completed this on my first try. ;D ;D ;D
Its running at about 170ma and i estimate it to be around 110mW 8-)
Im also using 3.7v rechargeable batteries because when i tested with my multimeter, the voltage difference between primaries was only .05v Thats because my driver is really wacked out for some reason. Im also using a 5.1 ohm resistor that tested at about 5.3 ohms. I've lit matches from a couple feet and balloons from even further. It doesn't look pretty because it sticks out a lot and i had to use electrical tape to secure it from moving back and forth. I have other resistors if i want to give it more power!

Watch out! i was using rechargables and had a 10ohm resistor...... still fried after 30 days.

wow, I just noticed you guys were continuing this thread. my bad. so as you've noticed using rechargable cr123's is a BIG NONO! since this is a boost circuit it boosts the voltage and current from the battery. as that sits if you put a freshly charged 4.1v rcr123 into it. it's going to spell POOOF. I fried a few that way until I realized what I was doing wrong.

I would like to offer up 2 of my dorcy Jr. heatsinks for sale. I've had them turned so I could sell some dorcy lasers but now that I've got my barrels I've got no need to make these any more. I do have one that is my personal laser that I will keep forever to remind me throughout the anals of time of where I came from! LOL. Dorcy Jr. Heatsinks cost me $30 per to get them turned but I'll let them to at $25 shipped.

hey kenom!!
Is there a thread on your laser barrels? i would like to learn more about them, i want one!!

Im not putting the rechargeables in fresh of the charger. Im running them down to 3.8 volts, then put them in. When i tested with my multimeter, a primary running at 3v is putting out 5.03v with no load. When i put these rechargeables in im reading 5.08v. I don't think .05v is going to make much of a difference. Plus with primaries in this thing, i can barely burn anything, and i estimate that its outputting under 50mW with primaries. I think i have a really weird driver in mine. Anyways with rechargeables im running at a comfortable 170ma as opposed to under 100 with primaries. Im using a 5.1 ohm resistor that tested at around 5.4ohms on my meter. I don't think i have anything to worry about.

Yeah. in my signature down below. or if your referring to the first one look in the GB section.

okay so what does scribing the lines do for the diode? do you use the lines to solder the pins on and when you say solder the straight pin that you cut off the resistor to the other pin is that the ground pin or the other pin. cause my diodes have three pins. thanks for the video kenom. it is great. i just got lost on the scribing and the pin soldering spots. and do you solder your pins directally to the wires or somewhere else.

thanks for any help. ;)
