Does anyone know anything about Drlava?

After ordering through paypal I've been informed that my shipment has been shipped and should be delivered today.. I'm not sure why ordering through paypal resulted in my item being shipped the same day whereas ordering through google checkout meant waiting weeks for items to ship, but whatever. At least they are on their way.. I'm pretty excited about that.

I thought he only accepted google check out from his website. How do you order via PP for his drivers? Thanks!

AFAIK Dr. Lava has many irons in the fire, and it might be beneficial if He was to partner with someone to handle the Drivers. They are awesome little pcb's.

He usually ships very quickly for me. The only problem I ever had was a bad flex drive. He told me to send it back and I did with tracking. After many emails and PMs he never got back to me or refunded my money.

I got my order yesterday, safe and sound.

Maybe I could arrange to be a distributor for him. I don't mind dealing with customers, but it would have to be on consignment or something. I don't have the working capital to keep the kind of inventory I think I would need.

I ordered a flexdrive almost 3 weeks ago, and still no answer from anywhere...i guess one orders from the same website as before, right?(http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/Micro_FlexDrive.php)

and for the v5, should i take the right resistor out for 1A or not? Because the manual i got with my first v5 said i had to take it out and jump the connections...but the one on the website now says u dont need to...the only thing i know is that i fried my flexdrive and i didnt take the resistor out...

now i ordered one with the current preselected, so i wont make any mistake.

thanks for reading

I too, ordered a few weeks ago and had a hard time gettin in touch with him. He was out of town for the holidays, my order arrived two days ago with no problems. He has a good rep and came through in the end, your order will arrive.

My nearby neighbor DrLava is finishing up his graduate school Thesis Defense. He intends to spend a great deal of time on lasers and his company very soon, including new products and ramping up production. It is a very critical, difficult, period in a student's life.

I'll let him know things are getting slightly bogged down.

Wish him luck for us!

*thanks for the info too, that makes a lot of sense*

Hi, thanks guys. Last week I had an important committee meeting and it went OK. So the next meeting will be the defense!
Anyway, orders have been proceeding. There was a Holiday backlog but that's been taken care of and things should proceed as normal. If anyone trustworthy wants to offer these in their online parts store, give me a holler! Also, if someone gets their order shipped after 1 day and another had to wait 5 days, it usually just the luck of the draw. When I do 'a shipping night' I do all orders up to current, so the people who ordered that day or even that hour are just lucky :)
Also if you have damaged drivers or are in the process of getting them replaced and haven't heard from me, feel free to keep bugging me about it.

Good luck on the defense! Haven't fired up the driver yet, picking up my lathe tomorrow so I canstart having some real fun. I will let you know if there are problems but I don't expect so, the items were packed well and looked great.

^^^^Remember to take your time and get everything lined up perfectly when soldering. ESD protection is important as well, take a little more time double checking with a dummy load and it can save the headache of a dead diode ;)
Good luck bro!

Just another reminder. I ordered 4 Flexmod P3 drivers on Feb 14 and still waiting. This is frustrating in that the projector is on hold and there is no way of knowing when these might ship. I need 8 more and thought that I'd check them out first before ordering another batch but, wow if this turnaround is typical I'm not going to finish this project for months due to the drivers.

I would like to put in my $.02. I personally have my own issues concerning shipping in a reasonable time. I will admit that sometimes it takes me a little longer than I plan and have to ship a item I've sold sometimes months after I had originally intended to ship a product. I know that nobody is perfect and sometimes orders fall through the cracks. I know that life gets in the way and we all have made mistakes.

That said, communication is the key. When you run into issues let your customer know that you've run into a delay. Most people are forgiving and are more than willing to give you the time to do it right or to fix whatever errors. I have to say that lava is horrible in the communication dept. He will eventually respond to emails or inquiries, but it does take him a little time to do so and in the meantime, this leaves you hanging wondering what is going on.

I have a driver that I commissioned him to build that has taken almost 1.5 YEARS and it's still not completed. This is a very powerful driver to drive a 40W fiber coupled 800nm laser with pulse controls so I know that he's wanting to do a good job, however I am getting really frustrated at the length of time. Mostly because when I do inquire and he does answer, he tells me a few days/weeks till delivery and then never follows through. Then months down the line when I inquire again, I get the same answer. the customer I've commissioned this driver for has given up on ME as being able to deliver because I can't get the driver. $200 and 1.5 years..

I am bringing this to light because I feel I don't have any other recourse in getting my driver delivered. Since this has been in the works for so long, I don't have the option of filing a paypal dispute, and I really don't want to publicly bash lava as he's always been a great guy and has always delivered in the end. I will say that I continue to have hope that this will end positively and will continue to say that he does provide good products.

I will update this with delivery status if it ever occurs.

doing business with... Have you tried calling him???
