but why do you see mods like employers? What's their privilege or power? They are just "helpers"!

exactly- which is why I think the true vets and not pseudos (!) should be the mods- they are the ones who do the most for the forum! Dave may not patrol the forum the whole time but honestly if I had a prob he'd be the first person I'd go to mod or not.

I think that there are many capable mods- the trouble is finding them.

You can't just think of it like a community, you have to think of it like a business or a corporation. Mods are representatives of the business/corporation, because the business/corporation appoints them to uphold business/corporation policies. As such, they are official representatives, and should be treated as such. Whether they're getting paid or not is irrelevant. Even if you're a volunteer, if you're wearing the uniform, then you represent the entity which appoints you.

I get the point.

Well, then all the other forums must be mad because they are getting moderators without making any contract or anything like that :wtf:

Other forums/forum owners have not faced serious law-suits/extensive legal fees due to the actions of their respective moderators. Is that it so hard to understand, why Avery wants a contact?

Do you have an Alarm System in your home...

If the answer is no... statistics and Alarm Sales/Installation experience
shows that you WILL as soon as you are robbed....

I've been robbed and I still don't have alarms xD

I'm voting no for now I feel this issue could make or break this fine forum.

I've seen forums such as fishing forums here in Florida turn into a freedom of speech
contest with the mods over the stupidest of issues... I don't think anyone of the class 4s here would ever stand to be censured, and for good cause.

I can understand that the drama of late would dictate the need for some sort of control

careful what you ask for...you just might get it.

^ freedom is a very good thing, if the ones that have it have also enough intelligence and responsability for use it in the right way, imho .....

Personally, i don't think that the problem is the freedom, or the lack of it ..... i never seen, here, Avery act as in some other forums, where if an user complain for a bad conduct from admin or mods, they reply "this is not a democracy, i decide what you can post or not, and if you don't agree, you can also go to hell" (yes, i've seen also this :p) .....

Here, if the forum have some mods, maybe from different timezones, as example, advertising spam posts can be managed more quick without overload Avery ..... same for flame wars / insult threads, for shift threads opened for error in the wrong section, for abuse reports, and so on ..... for all this, mods don't need ban powers, nor administrative powers, and they can be a help.

And remember that, if a mod go mad and start to abuse of his position, you can always PM Avery and get the problem solved ..... without administrative privileges, the database of the bulletin always keep all the posts, also if they become edited or deleted from mods, so, if a mod start to bully or insult someone, this person can always ask Avery to check, and he can always decide with evidences and revoke mod privileges, to those that abuse of them.

I'm glad you guys are liking my idea. I thought you were gonna tell me "2 mods no way" xD

Ok so what's the progress? I see you veterans opened a thread in the veterans section. Are we getting a mod soon?

ya know I can't speak for anyone else, but if I were a moderator on this forum it would only be to defuse drama until cold could more direcly deal with it, move threads to where they belong if they are OBVIOUSLY out of place, and delete OBVIOUS spam threads.

I don't feel a moderators job is to be a dictator. I mean for crying out loud I had the mods on that other place goin through my PM's and reading them. I spoke out about the moderators desire to rule the forum with an iron fist and he then PM'd me asking why I had an issue with him. That's just wrong! Nor is it a moderators job to say if one side of an arguement is right or wrong. We all have opinions and we believe they are correct. Who am I to say that your opinion is wrong.

Now, in the instance of this last drama with Darkarmy, it would be the moderators job to lock the threads to prevent the drama from unfolding and present the issue to the administrator for a final decision. If he feels a poll or help in the decision is required then he can do so.

I suppose it just depends on who is selected. If the moderator gets to the point of being out of line, it's a simple matter of bringing it up to the administrator and having the priveledges revoked.
