Crowd-Source: Can anyone find a source for the new 1W Mitsubishi 635nm?

Will we be able to get clarification of the emitter size before we plunk down $400? Or did I miss the answer to this question?
 





I have found the people on PL to be extremely helpful and amicable. There are many knowledgeable people and I often find myself drowning in the wealth of information.

Thats the great thing about Pl is the boat loads of good info. Any way I sold every last laser i had a year ago and now Id like to build a 10 watt 445 unit. 25 to 50 watt would be nice. But since I dont know much on these diodes ive got to start off small. Anyway back to the discussion at hand .

Not to be pessimist, but you'll never get 500 people to commit no matter how many forums you gather. Thats a big chuck of cash.

About PL, I've read many threads/post of them putting us (LPF) down. You wont find many threads/posts of us putting them down. The negatives that do exist stemmed from comments made on PL about LPF, and from former members they bashed who ended up here. Both forums are like apples and oranges, they dont compare, but for some reason that is not good enough for them. Not everyone obviously, but for sure some of the hierarchy.

I think the 500 count was for the $143 pricing on the 300mW diodes. The $370 price was for a 10 piece order of the 500mW.

I do agree, (and already said so) that 500 quantity of anything isn't likely to happen on this forum unless it's a sub $1 part that everybody wants some of.

The 500mW diodes are 7.5/35 - slightly worse than our 445s at 11/40 or 12/40, or whatever they are. But still not too bad.

Unless I'm reading it wrong those seem like better specs than the 445s.

I *think* that what we're shooting for is a smaller ratio between the two values.
IE: 30/32 would be better than 6/9
 
I don't think so. They're divergence rates. Smaller is better. Just having them close to each other means beam spread will be more symmetrical on both axes. (and yes that is the plural of axis. :D)

6/9 would be a LOT more preferable than 30/32. You can also get an idea of the emitter size by them as well.. Since a larger emitter with have higher divergence rates. If these are 7.5/35, then yes, they are slightly better than than our 445's divergence wise.

Unless i'm backwards in my whole understanding of it anyway.

Hmmmm -

Let me adjust my example slightly, just to make it easier to explain the way I'm thinking. Lets use the examples of 6/9 and 30/30.

With 6/9, and using a normal lens, the best you can ever do is get a rectangular "dot", because once get one of the beam's axes to be perfectly parallel, the other will not be. IE, since the two axes diverge at different rates, you can really only focus one axis to be perfectly parallel. The other dimension will keep expanding.

With 30/30, although the angles are larger in absolute terms, they're equal to each other. Both axes diverge at the same rate relative to each other. So when you focus one axis to become parallel, the other will be too. You can get a "dot" instead of a rectangle.

Thought I've written ^ as if it's fact, it's not. It's my hypothesis based on what makes sense in my head. I might be wrong or misunderstanding something fundamental.

When the divergence angles are so close to each other (like 7.5 and 12), I would say the one with the ratio closer to 1 would be preferable. Preferable because it would be more symmetrical. Of course this all depends on the emitter size, so until that is known there is no point in comparing divergences. Apples and oranges.

The price for 10 to 50 is approximately €224 ($323,92 aprox.) each.

This price is with my local taxes and transport (to my house).

Delivery according to the distributor, 8 to 9 weeks.

Offer valid for 1 month.

As also knows Gary, I contacted Mitsubishi, and yesterday I received the quote for these Mitsubishi diodes (ML501P73)

The price for 10 to 50 is approximately €224 ($323,92 aprox.) each.

This price is with my local taxes and transport (to my house).

Delivery according to the distributor, 8 to 9 weeks.

Offer valid for 1 month.

Did you contact Mitsubishi directly or a distributor? I'm going to contact Mitsubishi directly after I receive my proforma invoice from the distributor.

FYI, the emitter size is 2µm x 40µm for both 638nm 300mW (CW) LD ML520G71 and 500mW (CW) ML501P73 series.

Also, my quoted price from the distributor for the 300mW version was $238.46 for 1, $206.67 each for 10.

I contacted Mitsubishi directly and they put me in touch with a distributor in Spain, and are those who sent me the budget.

But I have doubts that I explain below.

Not sure if for those living in the USA the final price can be attractive, and I mean, I imagine that on reaching the diode would have to pay a fee (tax), making the price is not attractive, maybe.

Because obviously a diode with this price, needs to be sent with insurance, and I suppose at customs when they see the insured value, obviously applies a rate commensurate with insured value of the diode.

I do not know if you have any idea about this, or if what I say is right :thinking:

For Europe, it is more interesting because after I pay the tax, if I sent to another country member of the European community, do not have to pay those fees again.

That is, for any European country the price would be €224 plus the shiping, that's all.
