Countries of LPF. Where are you?

VisibleGreen - Pluto and sometimes the Moon in the summer

you dont like Martions

No way they ugly

I definately needed to see that before I went to sleep... if I have nightmares about that scary ass thing I blame you XD

As they say, "my bad" ;)

HaHa! They Ugly huh!

The 3 of you deserve to have nightmares for posting that. Anyone here from the Moon had better be from "Moon township Pennsylvania". This is for making a list of member locations. You can also post info about locations on the list or a photo of something there. Now back on topic. :spank:

There is also a Russian member but he hasn't been back for a year or so, don't know if you want to include inactive members or not.

Yeah probably not a good idea. I think the information should be as close you can get to being up to date. But it's Pi's thread so it's up to him.

But of course, but then the list will only be good for what ever last posting activity time frame is decided upon.

I think it's reasonable to go by the time frame of the creation of the thread as a starting point. No need to be any more complicated than that.

I am sure I remember at least 2 from Russia but I don't remember their names, I'll wait and see if and when we have an active member from Russia before adding it to the list.

Yes this is what I was thinking is to have a list of countries of the currently active members, not necessarily listing every last country we have ever had someone from.

The list may eventually become outdated, there are some locations on the list where we have only one or two active members. Also LPF will outlive me, hopefully when I am gone, a moderator will take over maintaining this list or turn it over to someone who will.

Yes this is exactly what I am doing, right now we have at least one currently active member in each location on the list. The only way I am making it more complicated is that I am not always immediately adding a country to the list, right now there are recently new members in 4 countries not yet on the list. I am waiting to see if they will be back or not, at least one of them I think was just here to ask a question and get info. I will however immediately add a location to the list when someone posts in this thread.

One more thing I would like to repeat here, everyone is invited to post in this thread even if your location is already listed, this will give us all a better idea where the most of our active members are. You can just state the country by itself if you want, and also the province/state/territory, I am not adding cities to the list with the exception of those that have some special status such as being a federal district or something not part of another province/state/territory. Also anyone can post a photo of someplace near you, or an image of your flag, or a link to info about your country, or say a little about your country if you want.

One thing I must insist on is that any photos posted must be resized so as to not make that page unusable to some people, many people are using tablets and phones now, so keep the images to 800 pixels wide, I am mostly posting from a tablet so I immediately notice this.

The list is post #2 on the first page and I update it frequently. Thanks for reading and for posting.

Alan,

I did not know you were one of the originals here.
How come you don't try and have a yearly convention of sorts.
Ed Wingatge, a Tesla Coil maker par excelance has one in Rochester every year
I mentioned this to Redcowboy....imagine you had all the tools, metal working...optics table, electronic componants...what a party!

Am not one of the originals here, I didn't join until May of 2013, although I was here for over 6 months before that reading everyday, almost never joined due to a thread and a couple of people that I found offensive. Once I joined though it ended up working out ok, I spend much of my spare time on here now. I became interested in lasers and in electronics at the age of 8 way back in prehistoric times.

I would love to have a yearly convention or meeting of some sort, but I no longer have the time or energy to do much of anything. I also won't be traveling again for the remainder of my lifetime. I understand there is an annual NWLEM in Portland Oregon for us laser enthusiasts but I don't know anything about it, but I think it's in the near future.

Don't talk like that Alan :(

I think it's good he mentioned that, as it reminds us of something.
We all know that life doesn't go on forever. It's what makes life special. I think the most important thing we can do for someone we care about after they pass is carry on their legacy, let them be known. Nobody wants to be forgotten. To quote David Eagleman,
“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.”
And Alan, this forum has done something pretty cool for you. I don't know if you've thought about this, but long after you pass, you will not be forgotten. For a lot longer afterwards compared to an average person, in fact. This is because of the fact that all of the things you've said in the past years have been archived, saved in data on the Internet, where as many people as you like can see it. Take for example, how I know you. Your entire existence in my life has been through these forums, where it's been archived, yet I can still know who you are, your personality, the things that make up your identity. In a way, the most important fractions of you, the pieces that you choose to show to people, can still be accessed long after you're gone, or even long after this forum becomes inactive. People who may not even know you now, many years later, will be able to see who you are and nearly meet you. Not unlike how I've known you. Not sure if the message I wanted to carry came across, but basically what I'm saying is you will be remembered. :)

Im from Estonia. It is small country, officially belongs to northern europe, but many say eastern europe, so i prefer the golden mean - north east europe :) Its a small country, about 1,3 million people, part of European Union. Most of people maybe have heard about Baltic states :yh: Estonia is also one of the world leading IT countries, we can do everything in internet. Something popular made by estonians? Maybe you have heard about Skype - its made by estonians. That was a short introducion :thanks:
