Cooking with TJ

Ah yes smoked ribs are the best.

I consider myself a good cook as well. Here's a quick recipe for meat sauce.

Tomato sauce (buy it or make it yourself with your own recipe)
1 lb of ground beef or turkey
1/2 frozen bag of Spinach
Garlic powder to taste
Optional salt and pepper

Cook the beef fully and add in the spinach either frozen or cooked, its up to you
Then add in the sauce. As much or as little as you want. Let it simmer a few mins.
Then serve over any pasta.
You will love it!

EDIT: I use this meat sauce for making lasagna. All you need to do is boil up some lasagna noodles and layer it with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses. Then bake for around 30-45 minutes

DAMN --- I can't eat Wheat!!!!!! Stop it !!!!!
Actually, I can make bread and pancakes and waffles and ....... without Wheat glutin. !!!!!!
Ribs are bad news when cooked in the grease using an oven. I need to make a rotating basket for my grill so I can slow cook good stuff.

Have you ever tried that GF pasta ??? It's like eating a bad tasting rubber band :-(
There is a Barrilla pasta which I can eat in small amounts which is whole grain and tastes good.
Some people are more intollerant than others to wheat. I can still enjoy a light beer :-)

Na, the only pasta I have eaten was the whole wheat kind. No scratch that... I've had rice pasta at asian restaurants. They are very good. I really feel for people who are allergic to certain foods. It's just not right.

Have you tried the potato pasta or the corn pasta? Might be worth a try.

Hey that reminds me of a thing I saw on the news about a kid allergic to peanuts. The study involved that the kid eat once reeses peanut butter cup each morning. He was able to eat peanut products without having reactions. It kept his tolerance up... sort of building up an immunity.

Maybe if you had a few bites of pasta each day you could eventually eat normal portions without problems

CJ ---
Corn pasta ? Mexican food has corn based breads if you ask for it. Soy sauce has wheat in it. Maybe your "snake venom treatment" will work -- I don't know but I still eat a little wheat and a beer or two every day !!!

Now get back to the good food postings. I can adapt them.

Ah ok how about Terriaki Steak.

There are plenty of asian recipes for BBQ sauce but the store bought one is just the same.

Marinate with that over night and grill. Basting every minute. Comes out so tender. I cut up the meat in strips and put on meat sticks.

The difference with Asian BBQ sauce is its much sweeter and isn't tomato based. It marinates very easily!

Pix updated for the chicken wings.

Hey glad you guys are aboard. Feel free to post your own recipes.

And yes I do know that BBQ and grilling are 2 different things. I have a smoke box on my grill. I make smoked salmon also.

The way to keep it cheap is to buy a couple of things a week. I'm on a fixed income, and I eat quite well. So if I can do it, you guys can do it. The list I posted in the first thread costs around $30 and the stuff will last you a month or more. And the meals are large so you can eat them for a few days. So its not as much as you would think.

Hey TJ take a few pics of the grill and ovens you use.

I always wanted one of those tray cookers.

EDIT: There's a few blenders that I like to use. 1 is the magic bullet. It doesn't do everything they say it can do but it's very powerful. The next is the Ninja... I haven't gotten it yet but I'll post a review once I do. The Ninja uses a lower and mid blade system so I think that would be better for chopping.

Its just a regular oven, and gas grill. I bought a stainless steel smoke box for the grill. You can get it a Walmart, along with maple, hickory, and mesquite wood.

This is a strange one, but try making pancakes with butter cake mix. Just add a bit more milk so it flows out like a normal pancake. They are light, fluffy and cheap, and you don't even need any toppings for them to taste great.

Hey hey. Most of you know I'm a big guy. Its not because of fast food, or sweets. Its because I cook really good food, and other things that do not need to be discussed here. I know a lot of you guys dont cook, dont know how, or are students with a tight budget. My recipes are cheap, easy, very tasty.

The basic shopping list. This is stuff I regularly use. Some can be substituted, and some not. The ones that can be substituted with have a *. Most of the items are cheap, and a couple are kind of pricey, but they add so much to the flavor its worth the extra pennies.

1. Good olive oil. You dont need to buy the super expensive type, but the better the oil, the better the taste. All I use is Extra Virgin. This cannot be substituted. :tsk:

2. A whole piece of imported Percino Romano cheese. DO NOT buy shaker cheese. If you cant find Percino Romano use imported Parmesan cheese, but once again, buy it by the piece and grate your own. This cannot be substituted. :tsk:

^^ These 2 things are the most expensive, but you use much less and get way more flavor. So in the end, you're not spending than much more than the crappy stuff.

Spices. These can be found at most dollar stores for cheap, along with most Asian markets. Asian markets are a good source for all kinds of stuff.

Hot pepper flakes.
Oregano.
Italian spice blend.
Dehydrated removed pieces.
Whole black peppercorn. Buy a cheapo pepper grinder.
Kosher salt. *
Celery seeds.
Cumin
Chili powder.
MSG (Accent)
Whole garlic. No powder, or jar. :tsk:
Bottle of pepperoncinis.

Other...

LaChoy soy sauce. *
Wishbone Robust Italian dressing. *
Kens Low Fat Caesars dressing. *
Teriyaki sauce. * I think Butcher Block is the best.
Hot sauce.
All purpose flour.
Bread crumbs.
Butter, no margarine. :tsk:
Sugar.
Baking soda.

I'll add more as they are needed.

Feel free to post your own recipes!!!

Happy cooking!!!

LOL I can think of what other things you cook

Ginger, Honey & Chilli Marinated Salmon.

Ingredients:
2cm (Thumb size) peice of ginger finely chopped, can be substituted with "Easy Ginger/Squeezy Ginger"

1 Tablespoon clear honey

1-2 finely chopped birds eye chill's (according to heat desired)

1 Tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 Lime juice

2-3 salmon fillets, skin on.

Pinch of Salt
Dash of Olive Oil

Preperation:
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, place salmon fillets in a sealable container. Spoon marinade over salmon, place lid on container and place in fridge for 2-4 hours (the longer the better)

Cooking:
Preheat oven to 190 centigrade, place fillets on a baking tray and depending on size of fillets cook for 12-18 minutes

Can also be grilled or BBQed.

You can use pancake batter for removed rings, just make sure the oil is very hot. They come out crunchy on the outside, and soft inside.
