That's what I was thinking as well. There is PLENTY of play at the tail spring. It protrudes from the tail switch ~15mm!

I'm sure that Dark Horse has NOT seen these yet. As I said, the front is wider than the rear. We cannot simply slip the heat sink in the rear anymore. We are going to have to come up with some sort of "keeper/adapter" at the front or epoxy the heat sink in place.

Peace,
dave

man, this is gonna be difficult.
i wonder were tommii is right now. Im surprised he hasnt said anything about this issue.

Yea that is so far off from the pic in the first post. I wonder if Dorcy sent him that pic, or if he just pulled it from the site or something. Hopefully Dorcy might be willing to exchange them if they've got more of the other style that we are used to.

As I said, the part number is the same. Even the picture on the back of the package is the other style. Tommi would have had no way to know that the style had changed and Dorcy would have no reason to suspect the difference was problematic. These are ours to figure out. We didn't buy them at a retail outlet folks.

Peace,
dave

i agree. its not like Dorcy figured we were gonna be turning their flaslights into lasers. its our problem to figure out. so lets get started!! =]]

I need a heat sink (or at least the dimensions of one) before I can think about what kind of adaptation is going to be needed here.

My first impression/ideas will require the lens rim. Those of you who have them already, do NOT destroy the lens. We may have to use them to hold the heat sink in the head.

Matt, If this ends up being the case, and the ring of your lens is thrashed, I will take care of you.

Peace,
dave

I'm pretty sure they knew we were using them to build lasers. They've even posted coupons for them on this forum in the past.

just any heatsink? i could let you use my silverbody/dorcy one

Can you measure the diameter? Are the silver body and the Jr heat sinks the same diameter? I will still need to know what the depth of the ones we have coming is.

Peace,
dave

im sure they are.
i will have to measure them tomorrow though because my neighbor has one of those digital rulers (i always forget what they are called haha)

and will you be receiving the other heatsinks?

thanks so much dave =]
If you need any help just let me know. =]

I don't think that they are the same anyway. Here is what the Silver heat sink page says:

Based on the hugely successful "Full-Body" design used in the Dorcies, these unique new heatsinks are down-sized for a Cree C3 (a solid stainless-steel 1xAA-sized host) This new design fits in a smaller host (21mmx 94mm).

The verbiage implies that the heat sink for the silver host has a smaller diameter than the Dorcy

Yes. The heat sinks are coming here to be added to the packages going out to those that bought them.

Peace,
dave

wow this sucks so i have a smaller heatsink either way.
well that doesnt matter. i want to figure everyone else out.
so if the heatsink i have is smaller than normal, then that means the ones your getting have to be somewhat bigger.

ill try contacting Dark Horse to find the measurements of the heatsinks comin in.
if we know the measurements for that heatsink, could we subtract that from the ID's of the head and find
the needed mm to fill the empty space.
could it be possible to use a washer to fill the space.
using epoxy to stick together the washer and the heatsink and setting that one the plastic lens ring.

just an idea. im bad at strategizing haha. =]

It would appear so. We'll know for sure when they arrive (or when dark horse sees this part of the thread)

Peace,

**EDIT** The problem with the "washer" idea is that it will have to be wider than both the front and the rear. With plastic it can be deformed slightly. Metal is a bit tougher to deform to get it to "squeeze" past the lip at the front

i hope he does soon.
but im sure we could all fix this.

also, i see how you came up with that. i didnt think of that.

Just don't ship them out yet dave, until we can work something out.
We might have to spend a little extra dough for shipping and dark_horses time.
If their is a way, they can be modified. Maybe We might just have to pay to have new ones made.

Would be a more complicated heatsink since it would have to be tapered.

Why would it have to be wider?

It must be wider than the lip in front to keep it from simply sliding back out. The rear is already smaller than the front lip.

I'll do whatever y'all want. I don't charge for storage.

I don't think a "taper" is going to do it. I suspect that we are going to end up with multiple parts in some way or epoxying them in place

Peace,
dave
