Thanks Tony, Seems the industry is feeling seriously threatened now. I'm in CA but hopefully this doesn't become a global trend.

Hopefully not. I use bc weekly and would suffer if it got shut down.
 
Wtf! America sucks dude!
In Australia the police don't go after users they go after dealers! If you get caught buying drugs here you get a slap on the wrist, depending on the amount you're buying..
If you are caught say buying a gram or and eighth of say cocaine or heroin they seize your drugs and that's that.. Also they don't actively go after users..
I was watching cops the other day and saw a sting operation where a cop was acting as a dealer and everyone that bought off him went to jail for felony drug possession and buying from an undercover cop!! That is bulls**t!
Again, America sucks!
 
Not that it's ever been great regarding the "war on drugs" but its getting weird for sure. Bitcoin has been labelled as the black market currency though, that's why I think this is going on.

It could also be a good thing by putting bitcoins to the test. Bitcoins are being acknowledged as a real currency, and the institutions that enable currency exchanges to bitcoins being treated as any other currency exchange. Currency exchanges must operate by certain rules; what will be interesting is how they adapt to a currency that can carry out transactions without the need for an intermediary.

So really, all these "attacks" are legitimatizing bitcoins as a currency.
 
A guy came in to the burger joint I worked at yesterday and asked if he could use bitcoin to pay.

How is bitcoin going to help anyone buy a laser, unless DX and others start accepting it ? Not sure if paypal is even the primary factor, they are illegal to ship to the USA period no matter how you pay for them, right ?
Concept seems workable, I however feel no guilt at all for having it better than the average Kenyan or Haitian ect. They don't care about me, I don't care about them, this angle about empowering those from the gutter is a sham - If anything, it'll just open up another avenue for them to scam ,, ie, if you send your bitcoins to Nigeria hoping to get something in return, you might just as well donate them to charity first.
 
That's a good point Xray, as money can be transferred person to person pretty easily. To most Bitcoins are not necessary. So they have a very niche market for their use. It gets the jacket of BM currency as a result.

I've used them to donate to activists and online institutions in the past, but that's about it. The only reason I did that is because I believe in the principal of what it stands for, freedom from the tyranny of Institutional control and fees.

How long will it last? They are already starting to start holding Bitcoin assets of people in the Bitcoin community. The process of legitimizing Bitcoins has started. I'm hoping the "Dream" of free internet currency becomes a reality :)

You can buy a laser from my store using bitcoin even if you live in the US. :)

It's true that it's still illegal to import a laser though. However, I think that this is part of the appeal of bitcoin, it doesn't really care what is legal and not. Laws are not always just, and bitcoin makes it easier to circumvent said unjust laws.

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but I think it would be cool if your website had more details about the specs of your lasers, particularly the beam divergence and diameter. Just a suggestion. :)

Thanks, I'll see what I can do. Problem is that some of the lasers have weird beam specs, like the ones with square beams with two different divergence axises. Also, the green lasers except for the 520nm one all have varying divergence from module to module.



In other news, dinodirect.com is now accepting bitcoin! DX-like site with 3.7 million items for sale, including some lasers and laser accessories. Pretty big news!
