ARCTIC HOST feeler! interested? READ

I know how unpopular I'm going to be for saying this....

But I do not believe lasers should be as unregulated as they are (in Canada at least)

At the very least, we need some sort of age controls. The thought of a 15 year old buying a 1W blue laser and playing with it out in public, is sort of terrifying. Yes, criminal law can deal with any problems that arise under provisions for assault, etc. But we're talking about the potential to blind someone. If a slingshot is a weapon, a 1W arctic is a weapon too.

Definitely. If anything, regulations would make it easier to keep this hobby legal for those of us who have respect for high powered lasers. I wouldn't mind having to answer a series of questions in order to purchase anything but a '5mW' pointer.

Personally, I 100% agree.

The last thing I want is to be driving in the back woods somewhere, and have some moron shoot a 1W blue laser at me, have me go flying off the road and be blinded all at the same time.

At least if they're over 18, they're able to be held accountable for their actions legally.

Thread derailed, let's get back on topic:
I most likely will not have the funds when this comes around,
so I'm sorry to ask you to better take me off the list.

I really do want one, but it'll have to wait until later, unless this turns
out to be really dirt cheap.

Thanks for the re-railing Anselm.

I wonder when there's going to be progress? I'm getting anxious! Even a general price might help too. I need to know if I'm spending 30$ or 60$

This.

Not going to commit 'til i have a price estimate. Ideally a minimum or maximum price value.

I might be interested, depending on the price.

You don't even have a ballpark estimate?

Looks like we really need a price to actually know whether or not people want these or not. There could be a lot of people backing out if the price is too high.

I'm still working on a price, I'm checking into sending the parts out for the 4th axis work. We only have two machines at my shop capable of making the entire arctic and they are usually busy with work that pays a lot (Thus the arctic work would have to pay more to get on those machines!) If I do all of the lathe work and send those parts out for 4th axis work it should keep the price down a lot, I'd probably be able to have them done a whole bunch faster too.

Since these things are so complicated and have so many parts I'm expecting a price of around $75-100. It could be more or less though, that depends on what the 4th axis work will cost.

I'll also have to collect some of the funds in advanced, a deposit of sorts, to pay for the 4th axis work. I'll work the details of all that out later though.

Thanks for being patient guys!

All of you asking for a price quote should keep in mind that professional shop-time costs a lot and you have to take into consideration the cost of materials as well.
We are spoiled by the skilled members of this community with the tools (and generosity) to do it for cheap. Not to mention, this is a BIG job with lots of complex work to do, not some 1" cylindrical heatsink. So don't be surprised if the cost is more than a few tens of dollars.

Great, thanks for the update. I will probably keep it to 1.

Yeah don't sweat it Pontiacg5, you're doing a great thing for us & I personally have no problem waiting until everything's right. :D

Does anybody else want to be taken off of the list? I am removing you Anselm. They won't be cheap, but they will be high quality so it will be well worth it!

Honestly how much is it going to be around? Exact price I understand you can't get it exact yet, but you can get it close?

Like whats the max this host is going cost? 100$ More? Less? you can get a ROUND ABOUT # can;'t you?
