A Malaysian airliner shot down

This is really sad. :( Feel so bad for Malaysia. :(

Either the Russian Rebels or the Ukrainians must have mistaken it for one of the others' military aircraft. :(
I don't understand why they would allow it to fly over that area though, given there has been fighting there for several months now.

Why is a commercial airliner flying over a military zone in the first place?

"The route taken by flight MH17 was a well-flown route between Europe and Asia, a pilot tells BBC transport correspondent Richard Westcott. He said that any troops should have known the path was full of civilian aircraft."

Because it's the first time ever that a commercial airliner is being shot at 10km flight height. They always thought that's a safe height because you need high tech weapons to hit a plane at that height. All other incidents before were at much lower heights. They also fly above Iraq , Afghanistan and so on
Of course now all airlines make routes around east ukraine.

Been reading about this and I definitely agree I think this is going to start something. Also just have to feel badly for all of the families of those killed and Malaysia in general. It hasn't even been all that long since the disappearance of the previous Malaysian flight.

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

Maybe some of you are more interested in the whole tragedy.

The Ukraine and the US didn´t cover themselves in glory according to this version

The Russian Government has been backing the Pro Russian Rebels all along, many of the rebels are Russian citizens and of course they are going to blame anyone but themselves as this tragedy has now taken the rebels from being rebels to being terrorists. To make matters even worse the rebels up until this very minute have not allowed unrestricted access to the crash site for rescue/recovery teams and for investigators. When rescue teams arrived and tried to recover bodies they were shot at. The rebels seized the Flight recorders and only just handed them over today! People had bodies that crashed through their house roof remain there for over 24 hours before they were recovered. These Russian backed Rebels so far refuse to take any responsibility at all for shooting down a passenger jet. They were just a bunch of trigger happy yahoo's that thought they were shooting down a Ukrainian military cargo plane. Maybe if they were a bit more professional they would have looked and seen it was a Passenger jet. I reckon at 10km with decent binoculars you would even see the Malaysian Airlines logo!

Don´t know, but maybe they just tried to avoid that the means of evidence does get confiscated by the wrong people?

The implications are massive if Russia is found to be at fault.

There is video being examined right now of a SA missile launcher truck pulling away from the area with only 2 missiles... it's capable of loading 3. Supposedly Russia backed militia are bragging about downing a military transport plane short after the launcher pulls away...

If there is evidence of Russia ( or militiamen) firing these missile,
I suspect that the EU will immediate view Russia as a larger threat and this could widen the conflict further.

Very scary news that is...
