Anyway, an update. I'll be working with DarkHorse to draw up plans and a CAD model for the lens nuts...
In the meanwhile i hope i can get some funding together...
Otherwise, i was wondering what modules everyone is using... If it's AixiZ (and i mean
AixiZ, DX is not AixiZ!), there is no need to post about it.
I'm more interested in how many of you are using DX modules, or even something else, like Sure modules.
I will need to try them all out to make sure the lens nuts fit.
I switched over to genuine AixiZ a while ago, when DX changed their modules to a lower quality version. The new ones suck and not just beause of the threads not extending down deep enough for the lens nut.
Since the lens nut will have to be custom made it could have an unthreaded thinner bottom section, which would allow it to go in deeper than the threads extend, if needed. The plastic lens nut idea really wasn't a good one..
Another good thing would be if the lens nut extended down further than necessary, to prevent being screwed in deep enough for the diode to touch the lens, cos otherwise i'm sure it's gonna happen to someone eventually, potentially damaging the lens....
In the meanwhile i've been playing with the lenses to get a feel for them, so that i can tell everyone better, what to expect.
Lens #3 seems to have something wrong with it, and it may be rejects from the refractometer tests of the good "blu lens".
I've been using mostly lens #1, because i like a beam with some volume. It also makes a "cleaner" spot, as the medium NA clips some of the edges of the fast axis..
I will also try another way to extend the lens nut to get a feeling of how lens #2 works in praxis - mostly how easy/hard it is to focus. At the moment i have to focus by putting a finger on it and turning it, and small turns make a big difference with short FL lenses. When you don't see what you're doing, it makes it hard to hit the desired spot...
