Well, sorry you lost your diode in this video, that really sucks! but wow, It was really smoking that CD! I have never tried to burn a CD. I bet it stunk and the fumes were toxic!
That's really sucks!! I actually got one in the post today and i thought i did exactly the same thing on the first cycle!! Luckily it was just oxidization on the batteries! Lol
That's actually the first time I've seen a diode go "DED!" from overheat.
Back in my starting days (cough running 660nm's without Aixiz module cough), when those reddies got real hot, they slowly faded away, down to LED glow. When let to cool down, they lit up normally again.
Oh well. Live and learn right? Epic host by the way. Got one myself. 2x 26650 batteries in combination with buck driver only need to be charged every other Universe.
Sir, you are a daredevil.
An inefficient diode running at 2.85A is calling for disaster. The diodes are usually hotter than the normals ones and running it so hard will melt it almost instantly. It surprises me that it has been running so long.
Thanks for sharing, running that @ the given 2.8A would call for a much better sink than that. It did do well for the time you had it running, poor diode it must a have been screaming for mercy.
Great video and thanks for sharing your work with all... sucks about the LD, but just think of how many of us newer hobbiests learned a lot from this... I know that doesn't help much, but the fact that you took the time to explain and still post the video says a lot about your overall attitude. I appreciate it, man. Thanks!
I was expecting this... Trust me I knew this was a dud diode from the beginning... I'm just bummed cause it could have had a longer life if I paid more attention to what I was doing.
