I don't see the awkward part... you left that laser on for like two and a half minutes, it must of overheated....

Good video about why duty cycle is important! Sucks it wasn't on purpose though :(

Thanks for sharing Adrian! That was very cool :)
Sorry about the LD.

The diode was inefficient to start off with... 2.2A and only putting out 2.5W with the G1 or 9mm lens (can't remember).

I pushed it hard to get it over 3W...

The awkward part is even after knowing how hard I was pushing it, I was too caught up trying to make the video, that I forgot about duty cycle. I was even planning to shoot the video in 3 parts to let it cool down in between takes.

The heatsink is a chunky 100 gram alu block, with tight tolerances to the host, so heat conductivity to the host is quite good. Thermal compound was used between the copper module and the heatsink.

Oh well, these things happen... Hopefully my next diode will be a freak :D

Oh and I think I'm going to look for a larger host :p

Just out of curiosity how hard did you push it? how many amps?

You aren't kidding that isn't very efficient at all. Mine at 2A was doing 2.8 no problem.

I believe it was about ~2.85A. I was almost maxing out the BlitzBuck.

The driver was well sinked... It was actually the first thing I checked.. It was warm, but definitely not hot. The diodes heatsink was pretty hot... maybe like 50C (ambient is like 17C at the moment).

But this was definitely a thrasher... I didn't really care all that much about the diode... Just sucks that it was user error that killed it hehehe... especially after the planning I did in my head to take into account duty cycle..

Haha, yeah I'm pretty sure most people here call them Icy Poles, unless I'm just special :p.
