3W laser destruction!!

My first 9mm 445nm was a bit of a damp squib.

It was almost zombie "out of the box".

Cant remember the exact figure but at 1.8 it barely lit a match, then died within minuets.

Blord built me a big boy monster which is running like a freight train.

Well, sorry you lost your diode in this video, that really sucks! but wow, It was really smoking that CD! I have never tried to burn a CD. I bet it stunk and the fumes were toxic!

That's really sucks!! I actually got one in the post today and i thought i did exactly the same thing on the first cycle!! Luckily it was just oxidization on the batteries! Lol

Haha, yeah I'm pretty sure most people here call them Icy Poles, unless I'm just special :p.

Icy Poles are a brand of.. Well..Icy poles! I think that's what everyone in Australia calls them! Everyone grew up with icy poles!!

Icy pole? Say waaaa? Everyone i know calls them ice blocks... Sorry about that diode as well. You learn better from mistakes than success :)

Thanks for sharing BHH...
It takes guts to show our own mistakes...

That's actually the first time I've seen a diode go "DED!" from overheat.

Back in my starting days (cough running 660nm's without Aixiz module cough), when those reddies got real hot, they slowly faded away, down to LED glow. When let to cool down, they lit up normally again.

Oh well. Live and learn right? Epic host by the way. Got one myself. 2x 26650 batteries in combination with buck driver only need to be charged every other Universe.

Sir, you are a daredevil. :)
An inefficient diode running at 2.85A is calling for disaster. The diodes are usually hotter than the normals ones and running it so hard will melt it almost instantly. It surprises me that it has been running so long.

Thanks for sharing, running that @ the given 2.8A would call for a much better sink than that. It did do well for the time you had it running, poor diode it must a have been screaming for mercy.

Great video and thanks for sharing your work with all... sucks about the LD, but just think of how many of us newer hobbiests learned a lot from this... I know that doesn't help much, but the fact that you took the time to explain and still post the video says a lot about your overall attitude. I appreciate it, man. Thanks!

What did you expect at 2.8A? The rated current is what?

I was expecting this... Trust me I knew this was a dud diode from the beginning... I'm just bummed cause it could have had a longer life if I paid more attention to what I was doing.

Where did you get your key lock from? Sucks to see it burnt out... What a bummer!

Check it out... 2 PCS Mini Size KEY Switch 1A Contact 115 250VAC Taiwan | eBay (I tested it to 5A... they hold up just fine)

Oh and to settle the Icy Pole, ice block saga... its called ice block. I've never heard of the brand Icy Pole... We always had Zooper Doopers :D

I call them icy poles, but either poles or blocks, both sound like something you'd break your teeth on :D
