If you have a mill you can make all kinds of diode/module units, just ordering the 12mm copper backs an inch longer and milling a flat shelf for the driver would be great at rebuild time, to have it all press out as 1 unit, then stepping up to the 20mm we would have ample room, diodes I am betting will get bigger so maybe stay fluid. Durr right?

Red,
Im working on a lathe and soon after a mill maybe about a month out . Have a buffer and a drill press already so i won't have to depend on getting components machined by the outside.

Having the tools and ability to do anything is the best way to go, there is so much I want to build and having worked in machine shops I lament having those quality tools at my disposal.
Figuring out how to do it the caveman way is good mental exercise but tiresome so I have been looking at lathes and manual mills, it's just the cost study that keeps me from jumping in it because I want quality tools but also am frugal.

Looking great for a concept. Thanks for moving forward with tuis. I'll be placing an order in a few minutes for some stuff as I decided I need to add a 455nm to my flock. Probably going in my C mag that already has a large aluminum sink from Ehg. Not going to push it hard as I already have a bunch of the 2 462nm diodes. Don't think there's a reason to push like my second 07E. I may need another 07E in the near future for another project that is possibly in the works. Good temporary price on the 08E too;)
Any other info on the orange Phlatlights? Ordered a couple of those plus a 515nm. I need to find out who is selling copper and aluminum heatsink for drivers so I can order some of those too (US).

I've been wanting a lathe for years and when this come up on gumtree I had to have it, apparently the guy didn't have space- time or use for it, it's practically new, he wanted $600 I gave him $500, it works like a charm, instead of starting with a simple heatsink I decided the first host to come out of this machine is going to be a complete custom work of art considering I've built some exceptional pieces on just a drill press, now finding the time to use it is an issue but it sure does make this hobby a lot more fun,

Ugh, I'm happy for you guys but can't help feeling a bit left behind. Can't imagine buying one. I would be seriously concerned about how much i would want to spend on tooling. It would be scary:

Thats my Phlatlight Jayrob PT54 maglight and not a laser by the way;)

For a first attempt I think they came out pretty well. I realized after a few passes I was actually being too cautious and going to slow causing it to grab and buck on the cuts which is great as the key is not to have to spend an hour trying to do these.

All the modules when built and holding a diode are 27.5mm long.:)

What ever happened to the drivers that you were getting to screw into the rear modules using the 2 screw holes in the 35mm modules!

Would it be possible for you to make a 25mm module a little taller, like 40mm? (With a driver heatsinked to it as well.)

Jordan,

Thats is looking great a shelf for the driver ,but flush to the bottom of the sink. This will give a lot more room to a build and protect the driver. Nice job

Have not seen them yet so this is what I decided to move on.

Yep the next batch will be a little longer.

Came out pretty nice.

You were going to sell the new analog modulated drivers by x-wossee, is it still going to happen? They seem pretty nice.
