300mw yellow?

I have heard of, and seen some yellow laser pointers made by using a 5mw green, and 5mw red laser (specifically, Jayrob's). Now, could I replicate that using a 150mw green, and 150mw red? And get a 250-300mw yellow? Visible beam, burning capabilities and such? If so, would it be the same method as the normal 5mw set-up?
 





No, you need about 4 to 6 times as much mW in red as compared to the green. -Glenn
 
also with the beam combiners you will lose power. you don't add the powers you put in and come up with the final number that way.

CNI already makes these, you can get them through the group buys. They say that the higher powered ones are not as nice looking as the lower ones... But hey, if your spending that much already, why not just save a few extra bucks and get an actual yellow 589nm or 593.5nm

But wouldn't that go up in the thousands? I guess not though...since it's only like 30-40mw red vs 150mw green.
 
No, you need more red than green. Red is usually cheaper than green so I think you would be able to do something like this for pretty cheap. A 50mW green module and a LOC red diode would do nicely and put you right up there around 300mW.

The beam will never be as nice as a "real" yellow laser though, also the red beam is bigger than the green so you will most likely have a yellow beam with a halo of red around it.

Heatsink, host, powersupply, drivers, charger is power supply is rechargable batt....

It's not coming off that cheap.

You can use 30mW module which is around $16 at o-like I think, you will have to contact Susie directly though as the item is not listed,

and use some real el-crapo SCC low power diode as red , around 150mW shoud be just enough.

That should lower the price a bit.

But, buying whole LPC sled will give you the needed dichros and optics you would need to combine the beams.

It's all up to you, and I am not saying it's impossible.
I am just saying that you have set your price a bit low.

I am not trying to put down your efforts, I am just trying to prevent a heart attack when you look at the final project costs :D

Well yeah, before all that, it'd be cheap, I would get the diodes and sled first as a test run and then I'd see how it ran, if it was worth it. I didn't want to buy everything to make it better, before I made it worth bettering. I go in steps, not steps 1-4 at one time. But, it's still better than paying in the thousands for a 'real' one of the magnitude I'm looking for, I can pay at MOST $120 to get aa 'good' one.

would be a good starting ground for this type of build. The flatness of the head where the lenses are would be conducive to jay's idea about how to mount the dicros.

As far as blending the red & green color ratios. I'm sure this can be done with adjusting the pot on the green side. I have personally taken apart the Dx version of this unit... They share the same board, but they have separate pots. Makes sense.

One could possibly double the beam combiners on the green side up to drop the FLUSH of green to a preferable level. ;)
 
im in the proces of combining 4 LPC @ 180-200mW and 2 green modules 100-130mW just for fun and got the spare parts cept the flexdrives and a few more cubes :san: it wont be a pointer though just a plate with aluminium heat sinks on it hope i can mix up some nice yellow/gold color if i have to much red in it ill just pot mod them down to lower current, and if everything fails ill just make some nice pointers out of them :)

anyway if things work out ill let you guys know

The result, as described by the guy who reviewed it, is lemon-color yellow.
So that is quite a bitter yellow color.

With 30mW green and 200-250mW red it should turn out a nice gold/yellow color, but speculations are not going to get us anywhere.
We need a project realised.
I'd try combining some, if I had 30mW module.
30mW I do have makes 45, sometimes 50 mW so, that'll throw the balance off, would need more red to balance it back.

Well, I have no problem getting a lemon yellow, OR past gold into orange. So, I guess I will put blu-ray on hold, make a red, then I'll try an LPC with an O-Like 30mW module. See what I get out of it lol. I'll also ask for an ACTUAL 30mW, not a 35, or 45... is it weird that I'm asking to NOT get overspec? haha
 
Here's a ~115mW yellow I made by combining a 30mW green o-like module and a 100mW TTL red:

As you can see, there is a red halo around the yellow beam as described by Pontiacg5:

You may be able to solve this with a tiny aperture for the red and/or a tiny beam expander for the green.
It is relatively difficult to line up the beams by hand (without an optical table of sorts). I used a dvd sled with one beamsplitter (half-silvered mirror) to combine the already focused red and green beams to make this yellow. :whistle:
