2W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

Thanks Jay - was looking on DX to no avail. Not bad at all.. Shipping's a bit up there but to be expected for the distance. Thanks for the link, I may actually get up the nerve to try this build...

I just might make one too if I ever get caught up...

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

With that kind of casing and heat sinking, I can imagine a >6m runtime by far, it'd be interesting to see how long it can go at that power...

How about this. I am actually pissed this camera decided to stop by itself.:( I was going to start it back up but that would not be ideal and I felt this got the point across quite well. I would like to try and double this run at some point.:eg: Also the readings on the meter can not be seen at all they were visible on the display when recording.:scowl: The power after 15 minutes was still over 1.6W:beer:

Alright this time I set to HD setting instead of SD that it was on last time and it cut out at 7min. So I went and read my owners manual.(come on who reads the owners manual) and it say all files are limited to 2gb with the uncompressed video this thing saves in. Why can't it use X264 or something that can give great compression and excellent video quality. It is a scam I say. Anyway here is a 7 minute run but you can see the meter.

Wow.. thats one big scary laser allright!

I love the build - some could say its overkill, but i'd say you got things right: at least this one runs more or less continously if you want it to. I wonder how long a full run would last on the batteries and how hot it would actually get, but i suppose you shouldnt risk destroying the diode to find out ;)

Just curious: how much does this entire thing weigh?

Great host DTR
and another great review, i always enjoy seeing how you build your beautiful lasers.

Hope to see you in the future.

Luke.

But seriously.

This diode laser is Casio?. If so I did not know I could give so much power.

As from now you will connect less to see you. I go to another city where I do not have or internet or computer.

Until next time!

A guess would be 2 pounds but I will weigh it for you tomorrow when I get to work.;)

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

2lbs! That's very nearly no longer a handheld!

VERY nice output there DTR and a unique build.

I haven't seen any graphs, (if there were some posted), but how does the linear driver do? Do you still get the drop in power as with the boost drivers?

I did try to post the other day but the PC I was using at college didn't want me to.

Great build and more great work from Jayrob. A new kit perhaps? :eg:

As I said to DTR in a PM, with this build you'd only need to beat things repeatedley and they'll burst into flames just to get you to stop! No need for the lasers here!

100mW drop in five minutes. Way better than the boost drives.:eg:

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

I thought drop in power is matter of diode, not driver.
