2W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

Re: Ultrafire RL-2088 1300 lumen flashlight--1871mW 445 DTR Frankenstein

"1 million dollars" In a Dr.Evil accent

Well there are some values that would outweigh sentiment.

Re: Ultrafire RL-2088 1300 lumen flashlight--1871mW 445 DTR Frankenstein

DTR ---

I think you won the lottery on that diode. Even with TEC cooling, I never got that power at 1.6 Amps with 3 different diodes. Congrats on your good fortune.
However -- 1+ watts is no toy and you have a good example of DIY effort. You docummented this build very well. I hope others note what you did to build this laser and refer to it often.

Thanks Mike.

I do need to give a little more info on the setup of the Flexmod because I have gotten quite a few questions on that.

Also I just did check the current draw again to see if I had any change in current when reading from my DMM compared to my power supply . No difference.

It was time to charge these batteries so I thought I would throw up a picture of the charging setup.

I have had many requests to purchase this unit today. Some with just insane offers. But I am going to keep this one for sentimental reasons. If I do another it may be a different story. It is not always about the money.;)

Understood.

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

Great job like everyone else said. Thank you also for taking pics and posting all the steps it's amazing for me to see a laser with that kind of power after only researching for 3 months. I have host coming in the mail soon and look forward to building a 1.5W laser out of it it will be a process but reading your posts has helped me understand a lot about lasers. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Very cool build! +1 We wouldn't have imagined ~2 Watts of any colour visible beam in a pointer, even a few months ago. Now look what has happened!!!!
Now burn LPF into your forearm, to commemorate this event of achieving ~2 Watts of visible in a pointer.

It wont let me REP you again DTR.

Words cant describe, simply awe inspiring. Frankenlaser

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

This thing is the pinnacle of all handheld lasers! Great job there DTR, hope to see similar builds coming out on these forums soon. This just tells us that there are no real boundaries to what one can achieve with laser technology. Congrats man!

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

I also noticed on this unit that the power does not drop as rapidly as with my other high power builds. It could be the linear nature of the driver as well as the massive heatsink.
And therefor i am going to cool mine with a TEC and crank it up to 1.6 Amp to see if i can come close to what you have reached

Good luck. These diodes do seem to vary. As Hemlock_Mike pointed out this diode is running very efficiently. His tests and even mine on a bench supply have not produced an output like this. I had my MXDL that was putting out 1.6W @ 1.5A and I changed the diode because I got a new heatsink fit for a copper module and it went down to putting out 1490mW.

1871mW is the highest that I have gotten from a cold start on this unit. My average is around 1850mW. Still amazing tho:D

I also ordered up a few more Flexmod P3's and will have some more detailed photos and explanation on how to set it up in a few days.;)

Re: 1.8W 445 DTR Frankenstein Ultrafire RL-2088 Handheld Host

I was also thinking to buy a Flexmod P3 those modules just RULE

That fat! It's like a black cock XD

Very good host!!!

More like an elephants. But you seem to be an expert, so maybe you're right. :D

Hey TJ, I thought you might have something colorful to say abought that. LOL
