2 Diode 4W+ Hosts

Re: Feeler: 2 Diode 4W+ Hosts $200

I like ARGs desigh, if somehow, and I did a drawing on a napkin you could have the diodes one on each side then in the forward corners using mirrors to make the beams then go through the PBS which would then would be in the center. You get the didoes away from each other for cooling and you could use a lens to focus.

I still like the cube combiners but I havent played with any combiners other than the Dr lava find in a 405 (ggw???) sled and it is tiny... If you had a working model with specs and such I may be interested. I saw a 4 beam splitter cube on ebay can you join 4 beams into one with that cube? I also dont get the polarizing parts of light.. and wasnt sure when I was thinking about that 4.4W build why he would need the extra plate.. couldnt he just turn the module to get away from the + effect?

:)

The light has to be oppositely polarized to use a PBS. Meaning that one diode has to be rotated 90 degrees from the other. If I rotate it so that both beams are the same orientation they will not combine.

I wanted to talk to you a bit about TEC cooling and condesation.. among other things..

Well, send me a PM or something, or if it's related to this thread here we can talk about it here :)

Re: Feeler: 2 Diode 4W+ Hosts $200

very interesting, a handheld with a red and green combo sounds nice! yellow anyone? :D

Iv'e moved this thread from the B/S/T section for a couple of reasons.

1) The original design wont work (as pointed out by members later in the thread).
2) It's stopped being a "feeler" thread and became more of a "how can I get this working" discussion & ideas thread.

Once the design is finalized & a prototype is built, tested & working, then post it in the B/S/T section.

I saw a pointer like this from information unlimited (CNI reseller )Laser Pointers and Portable Hand Held Laser Systems once :)

Red and Green combination would be awesome as well! You could also use it for 2 635nm or 2 405nm diodes to get over 1.5W of each of those. I'll try to get one built this weekend. Would anyone experienced be interested in doing the testing so it's not me vouching that it'll work?

I would love to do testing for a dual diode host :) I got all the optics to test it to see if it's suitable for dichros, knife edging and PBS cubes.

Do the sink have some precision setscrews for each module ? I was thinking combining a red diode, blue single mode diode and a green module to create a white laser.

It doesn't need to be high power. That can be done later when we master the combining techniques.

Single mode diodes would give the best combo anyways, or there would be some nasty fringing.
You could also probably get an unlimited duty cycle with the large heat sink :eg:
I would like to see 3 switches for RGB, so that 7 colors is possible.

I would love to try to build that. Let's get to that after a few of these dual diodes hosts are running well. The set screw would be normal, but the holes would be bored to 11.9mm, and if the modules still don't fit, as they seem to change size, then the hole would be reamed to 12mm. I'm also quite busy, so these hosts are going to take awhile, and really before I start making these, I need to sell all the hosts kits I currently have, because at this point I'm pretty much broke...

ARG, I'd definitely be all for you doing the testing!
