well if banning wasnt an option you would have never know the seriousness of how we look out for each other. whether you do or don't get banned let it be a lesson on how to treat people, how to business, and learn how serious safety with lasers is. it is irrisponsible to sell to just anybody.

I don't really think I'm in a position to vote on this considering my very short time here as a member, so I won't.
But, I do think I have a right to say a few things based on the fact that I bought one of his builds.

In his ad, I was never under the impression that it was a 100% continuous duty cycle.
Although these diodes are capable of a 100% duty cycle, it's with proper heat dissipation.
After all, it did come from a projector that is rated at 100% duty cycle (it would be stupid to market a projector that you had to turn off every 5min)
I took his statement as a description of how long the batteries would last with the laser operating at 100% current draw, not how long the laser would literally run for.
His description had several "sections" describing each of the components, and the 80min run time was in the battery section, not the laser, heat sink, or driver section.
When I was operating the laser, I kept tabs on the heat sink and when it started getting warm to the touch I would allow it cool.
Everyone *should* know that when a heat sink starts getting hot, the source of heat is is becoming VERY hot.

As far as copying a build, I didn't realize everyone was so particular about their builds. It's a chunk of aluminum with a hole drilled in it, mated to a flashlight, with a diode, driver, and optics attached. If I were genuinely interested in supporting the hobby, any of my builds would be a DIY tutorial and if I had the time I would supply parts or kits. I wouldn't be upset about someone else building something I threw together. In fact, isn't there a thread about a group buy of an arctic spyder host copy somewhere on the forums? Where does one draw the line between using an idea or concept and copying a design? Now that I've said that, I don't condone selling a build knowing the original builder doesn't agree with it...but there's no copyright law against it, only a matter of integrity/honor.

This laser is a good build and I've had zero problems.
The optics focus just as well as can be expected from a cheap acrylic lens.
Heat sink works quite well and further dissipates into the host body.
Battery life is admirable.
Diode works great.
Only complaint is that the battery spring wasn't attached in any way to the tail cap and didn't really give me any problems.
While it did bother me a bit, it always work, and a drop of hot glue fixed that issue.

Take that information how you will, ignore it, or chalk it up to an inexperienced hobbyist (that was a joke btw)...that's all I'm going to say about this matter and this is the extent of my participation.

.

they are not rated for 100% duty unless you are within the mfg's specs. and 1.8 is almost triple the original out put.

Thank you for being open minded, feel free to contact me with anything else I should change to be a good forum member.
Take care of the issues at hand in a graceful manner and then stop selling any
further lasers, at least for now. Maybe like that you can avoid the banhammer that
has been called for by many members, and I can relate to their reasons why.
Be a helpful member and contribute to the community, but refrain from doing business
for the time being.

We should only give Him a Temporary Ban this time around, and see what happens when He returns. I would rather see Him sell here where it can be monitored as opposed to Craigslist or ebay, but that's just My opinion.

An acrylic lens on a laser that could be outputting 1.6w-2w? I would Pm flaminpyro or jayrob and get a glass one, I'm amazed sparkles didn't sell these with glass lenses in the first place.

Re: Should wreckless seller be banned

Well he is not entiely to blame, the other guy should have grown some brain cells and not left the laser on for 10 minutes, he even claimed it got "to hot to touch" but still continued the test???

Let me clarify I did not bother to feel the laser's head for heat until after the 10 minute LPM test was finished because Sparkles claimed an 80 minute duty cycle in his original sales thread and I have seen a similar laser on the forum with the same massive heat sink survive a 14 minute LPM test.

Also, right after I purchased the laser from Sparkles I told him I could do a 10 minute LPM test once I got home and post the graph on his sales thread and he said it would be cool.

I am amusing that he is confused because his diode would probably already be trashed if not.

I find it strange that a member that registered at 8:47 PM EST today....
(about 15 minutes ago) with ZERO posts... voted in favour of Sparkles.....
Hmmmmm... It took me 1/2 an hour to read through all those posts...

Do I smell a 2nd account worthy of a :banned: notice...
Maybe a Mod could check up on that....

I could be someone who have been reading up on the subject and then decided to join the forum in order to support Sparkles.
Or not.

ok for futrue referrence, no hand held laser needs to be on for more than a couple minutes. so i hope you learned a lesson too.... That being.. use common sense.

I am an American serviceman living in Germany, and I have been following LPF for a long time. I have never felt the need to actively join the forum as I just like to read the posts that interest me. Until now. I am going to post this, and probably not come back to LPF.

ALL of you (except for moderator) are WAY out of line! Sparkles said HE would fix it, for flippin' FREE! Why doesn't Watson just give it too him? He says he sent it out already, ok fine... TO WHO?????? He hasn't aswered it yet. Who did you send it to? TELL US!

I think the laser works fine, otherwise... HE WOULD HAVE TOLD US WHO HE SENT IT TO!!!

Sparkles... you need to fix your stuff AND leave
