Nichia begins sample shipments of green semiconductor lasers






Very cool, we buy millions of LED's from Nichia, I'll see if they could send a couple of them green laser diodes my way :)
 
Wow. First blue, and now this.

Will they be 515nm, like they said in a previous press release, or 532nm?

Things are really getting interesting now...
 
Awesome, hopefully we'll see some cheap green diodes next year :san:
 
Green diodes? I never thought I would see that. I guess this would correct all the problems the DPSS green had. Do you know what wavelength these diodes will be? Will it be 532nm? Hopefully there will be a 473nm in a diode soon :D That would be the greatest thing ever!!!
 
Nichia has only published up to 515nm, last I recall, but that was a year ago now. Not sure what wavelength these will be, really, but it was only ever a matter of time.

It'll be interesting to see what kinds of diodes different companies come out with in the green region.

It would be fascinating and blindingly bright to see a 555nm diode. it's at the very peak of eye color sensitivity.

Green diodes already! I knew they would eventually come, but I thought it would be a few years from now.
 
This would be why I held off buying any higher power greens.
Well this & the fact that blue/violet is my baby... :p
