Nichia begins sample shipments of green semiconductor lasers

That's right, green laser 'diodes' rated for 50mW CW at a case temperature of 60*C.

Shipments begin in August, whether these are the sample shipments or the full shipments to pico projector manufacturers isn't clear in the arcticle.

Green diodes? I never thought I would see that. I guess this would correct all the problems the DPSS green had. Do you know what wavelength these diodes will be? Will it be 532nm? Hopefully there will be a 473nm in a diode soon That would be the greatest thing ever!!!

Nichia has only published up to 515nm, last I recall, but that was a year ago now. Not sure what wavelength these will be, really, but it was only ever a matter of time.

It'll be interesting to see what kinds of diodes different companies come out with in the green region.

It would be fascinating and blindingly bright to see a 555nm diode. it's at the very peak of eye color sensitivity.

EDIT: This thread at LPF was from over a year a ago and mentions this. @514nm for the Nichia; the 531nm was in big bold green leters, thats why I remembered it, LOL..
