Nichia begins sample shipments of green semiconductor lasers

Perceived brightness is a factor of both power output times % eye sensitivity. In other words the brightness of a laser doesn't solely rely on the human eye's sensitivity to it. My 250mW 405nm laser "appears" brighter than my 5mW green, so does my LOC build. So a 555nm diode won't automatically be brighter than any other wavelength. But compared to another color of the same Po, then yes it will be brightest.

I'd rather see a 580nm diode, that will be a very unique color, perhaps a sort of lemon yellow.

Yeah, remember how the first news of 445nm diodes were the 50mW ones? And then they made them capable of 1-2W for projector use? If these green diodes are being developed for video projectors..... :evil:

Still, 1W of 510 would only be as bright as 300mw of 532.

Also, i don't think we'll see single mode diodes anytime soon, HOWEVER THERE IS INCENTIVE TO DEVELOP THEM!!!

Holographic Versatile Disks require a single mode green laser as a WRITE laser. One of the hurdles that HVD is trying to overcome is the staggering price of several hundred mW single mode green lasers...

I see them in the future maybe 5-7 years.
