amazing..."whats all the fuss about, my neighbors dont care what I do, those FDA guys dont have enough money to bother a small fry like me. I'm not going to sell these on the internet, I am only going to sell them to my reasonable friends and their reasonable friends. I am reasonable and I think I should be able to buy what ever I want to buy even if it is illegal, It is not like I am reckless it is all those other people out there in the general public that are irresponsible and reckless..not me and all my friends and their friends. We know what we are doing, we learned it on the internet."

*shakes head*

I have permit to own handguns and have received firearms training. I've been a gun owner for years, in that respect lasers are toys by comparison. The safely precautions needed for laser use are different and there is far more room for errors.

What I mean by "reasonable" are those who aren't going to treat a laser like a toy. As to legality it's illegal to break the speed to limit but as long as the law is not enforced it doesn't matter. Depends on the state, In Los Angeles the speed limit on the freeway is 65 posted but the real limit is 75 the law is not enforced. Same with online torrents, a law without teeth is not my concern.

Legal or not private party transactions are not privy to the FDA. Now if the LAPD tells me it's illegal, I'll take them seriously. Until then this is a manufacturer issue that does not concern me as I have no plans on selling lasers to the public. I only feel sorry for Mohrenberg.

You can't change what you don't like, that's all.

Pleading or Taking your fifth amendment rights in the US means basically you are not going to answer their question on the grounds that answering that question forces you to incriminate yourself.

Its actually a bit more complicated than that. Here is a link to an interesting youtube video where the attorney discusses exercising your 5th amendment rights:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8z7NC5sgik

While I have found in many cases that I was able to discuss away some potential legal trouble with a federal agent, not everyone is as well spoken and not everyone has the luxury of time. I am very picky when I chose to discuss issues with law enforcement. The youtube video above will give you an education.

Yeah but you wouldn't buy a gun without a safety or one without a trigger that automatically fired every time you put bullets in it would you?

It's basically the same thing, all the FDA cares about is that the laser has all the correct safety features, which really isn't too big of a deal. Just as guns are allowed to be sold an manufactured as long as they have the correct safety features.

As far as I know, class 3B laser pointers need:

Aperture shutter
Emission delay of 3 seconds or more
Emission indicator
interlock
Keyswitch

That really doesn't seem like too much to ask for. And, if you work with them you can usually skate by on one or two of those. Look at the pointers sold by Viasho (also known as "RPLs"). They only have the key-switch, emission indicator and aperture shutter and they were still granted an accession number.

I think I'm going to move on. You can talk until you are blue in the face, yet every retard like this yahoo has to pipe in about how the man is oppressing those who violate the law. It's easy to talk like a big man when your ass isn't on the line. You'd be pissing your pants if you were facing up to a $250,000 fine. This forum lately has been overrun with ignorance and I don't care to be around it. I guess the change over is about as good a point to make a clean break as any. For you laser professionals out there (you know who you are), I'll see you around the neighborhood.

Personally, I've learned volumes from Frothy just in the comparatively short time I've been a member here. If he decides to leave this community, then it is a massive loss.

Frothy, I sincerely hope you'll reconsider. There are many worthwhile members left here that love to hear your input whenever possible. Most of the time, you're one of the only people who can set the record truly straight.

I understand where FrothyChimp is coming from. When forums have people who gravitate right off to personal attacks and drag topics off topic just to start unrest, thats no good. I get the same feeling when I read posts like that too.

mods need to toss some bans I think - not for providing differing opinions but for personal attacks - there is no need or call for it

^I am 110% in agreement with m60gunner29. Just yesterday I read a thread in which one of our more socially inept members responded to a simple post with just "you are an idiot". What a helpful response. That kind of unintelligent middle-school belittling should be (and is, if you read the rules) grounds for an immediate ban. If you can't keep some semblance of a respectful attitude towards other people's opinions (which we are all entitled to) or you can't take time out of your day to come up with a better response than just calling people names, then you deserve to be banned.

In short, don't be a dick!

Please be a little careful with "calling people names, then you deserve to be banned."

If such a rule were enforced, it would be FrothyChimp who is banned: "every retard like this yahoo"

Please go back and read what was originally posted.

I don't want FrothyChimp to be banned, since my sympathies are with him even though I don’t approve the name calling.

Fair enough, but I stick by what I said. Frothy was frustrated at the time, but I still feel that he shouldn't have resorted to calling people names. I would cut Frothy some slack since he has contributed so very much here, and he rarely resorts to such attacks (in fact I've never seen him attack anyone like that before, personally) Certain other members seem to jump directly to name-calling and belittling right off the bat, and do so frequently. Those are the ones who are the problem, and they should be banned permanently.

NICE TRY RICHARD (Dick Reference) I think you just called me a name. I think that is grounds for an immediate ban. In my country calling someone "socially inept" is a capitol offense. So I would assume "move to canada" was a helpful response. You are a one sided little female dog in heat. (here is where you insert what I really think of you)

We ALL cant be middle manager suck ups, look on your business card...that is your job. Im entitled to my opinion and my opinion was that he was an idiot for making an idiotic statement on a thread that is of monumental importance to this forum. His little one liners offer NO, ZERO, NADA, ZIP, NOTHING, NONE or even at a huge stretch ANY constructive input, his was a direct response to me. He acts like an IDIOT, are there any further questions, is that better?

Here is the time when you write your little PM to CoLD and tell him how mean I am being and how I am so bad. The last time all this got started you agreed and backed with another TROLL who has sort has redeemed himself and found the light so to speak. GROW A SPINE AND CONTRIBUTE dont just back others because then again it is YOUR OPINION I dont need YOU to justify ANY other poster. CONTRIBUTE OR STFU!

I called you out last time and here we go again...

The point is we need more strict moderation here. C0ld shouldn't have to be stuck doing it, but since he won't appoint moderators it falls back on himself. Immediate bans may be a bit much, but the overall "quality" of discussion has been rather.... lacking lately.
