Just wanted to show my new build! :)

Tri-Mag1.jpg

I'm using a cut down Mag host with a single 32650 Li-Ion supply. (6000mAh's capacity)

The overall length is still shorter than a standard 2D Maglite as this comparison picture shows...

Tri-Mag14.jpg

I'll list some of the key parts, and give output power settings as well as show lots of pictures of the assembly below:

Did some custom modification of the two Newport mounts...

Voltage Monitor:

I wanted to also fit a voltage monitor just for 'cool factor'... (see the colored fiber optic plug right above the red switch)

Tri-Mag6.jpg

The light changes color as the voltage drops to let you know where your Li-Ion cell is at... (and also doubles as an 'armed indicator light')

Blue - Full
Cyan - Very good
Green - Good
Yellow - Low
Red - Need to charge

The voltage monitor is activated via the tail cap switch shown below. Which also 'arms' the two lasers.

Some of the key parts:
Two Newport optical mounts
45 degree red dichroic filter

Notes:

* The dichroic filter shown is 98% reflective for red, and 90% transmission for green (about as good as you can get)
* I used a turning mirror from a PHR sled for the red (first mirror)
* If combining beams using the optics shown, you must make sure your red is reflecting off the surface coating on each optic. (not going through the glass and then reflecting back through)
* I first focused the individual lasers to best dot at 80', then aligned beams at aperture, and finally align the dots together at distance. (80')

* Seeing the dots at 80' for alignment?

My solution for this is to bounce the beam off a mirror at the opposite end of the house so that the returning beam/dot is on the wall right near me. (must use caution obviously)

Output settings:

Red: LPC 826 /400mA / 263mW out the front (after optics) - Using 650-G-1 glass lens
Green: PL520 /Around 170mA / 42mW out the front (after optics) - Using 405-G-1 glass lens
Yellow: 305mW out the front

* Battery current draw measured at the tail is only 633mA's. (yellow) I'm using a 6000mAh 32650 cell. So it should last 8 or 9 hours between charges... :D

Very stable output of both lasers = nice stable yellow... :)

One of my new favorites!

Re: Tri-Mag Yellow...

That looks AWESOME! I love multiple diode builds and your optical mounting setup is BRILLIANT! +4 but we want more yellow pics!!!! :)

Great build you have there Jayrob. Ihave not seen one of these multi diode builds in action until now! +Rep
I too want some more yellow beam pics!

Great work specially mounting and aligning optics. Looks like those beams overlap each other perfectly.

Awesome yellow build!!!!! Optical mounts look a little challenging for all but the most
talented builder. Great work, how much time did it take to aligned the beams? Again
super job. :>)

Nice use of Pat's mounts... looking sharp jay, great job, that thing is growly:wave: how much does it weigh man?

Did you think of using the HL63603TG diode?

I'd say beam alignment went pretty quick. Maybe 20 minutes...

But then going back and trying for perfection spending at least 20 more minutes tampering around...

Been busy back working full time these days, not keeping up with the latest.

But if your talking about the Ocarlo or Mitsubishi reds, then no... Those are not a tight enough beam for combining with a PL520...

The build weighs exactly 21 ounces. (without battery)

Awesome build! I'm impressed that you managed to get both those optical mounts in such a small package.

I've been looking for options to build an elegant dual diode RB, and GB. Any chance you'd be willing to sell a couple of those mounts you made?

Well normally yes but my time is really limited these days, and I'm backed up with other orders all the time...

I think if you bought a couple of those mounts that I linked, you would probably be able to set them up similar as shown in my pics... (more than one way to do it too)

Also, if your using a cube, then that would eliminate the need to put the 45 degree angle on the one mount that I used for the dichroic filter...

Sweet looking tri-build in one of your tried and true mag hosts, excellent work!
Those beams look perfectly aligned, did you set them up to be perfectly aligned at a certain distance, or at "infinity"?

Glad to see you building again! +rep
