I might be game for 1 locking tailcap for a pen laser. I didn't buy any but think it would be nice for the free gift, as i assume the one coming snail mail doesn't have one.

It's $18 from California back to China @ one (1) pound, cheapest USPS rate.

I'm not too excited about spending more when I'd take a refund for the whole deal and walk away. Is a refund an option at this point?

If not, then yea, I want my keyed tail caps for my pens. I'd like a gift box for my HL that isn't smashed, a working HL532, and an account number to charge the shipping to.

I may be asking for too much? I'm tired after a long day and grumpy. I'll be more agreeable in the morning.

Peas two awl.

As far as the lp units go I would obviously want (3) locking caps for the 3 units I have.
Don't feel like commenting on his answer for this at the moment....

Expected to get that answer for my DHL.

Why "blue" hls don't come with the regular cap makes no sense as they fit. Whatever.
If I need to pay for one then I'll pay for one and he can send it along with my locking lp caps.

Need some coffee and to think more before posting on the answers from Kevin (if you follow me)

:thanks: Offroad

On a side note since most guys with an ophir seem to be in this GB, do you have the 20C-A version or something else? According to the specs I see, it says that it is good for 4W max free standing and 20W heat sinked. Everyone is listing theirs at 5W but I'm not seeing any extra heatsinking. Voltage supplied to head determines maximum W rating with proper heatsinking. See three versions on their site (20C-SH, 20C-A, 20C-UAU) and all list maximum free standing power as 4W.
Also, my understanding is that the + - power supply MUST be regulated and exactly the same or your readings will not be correct as the ophirs stability requirements are high.
How did you hook up the (2) 9 volt batteries to the unit to achieve the regulated/balanced power?
If you didn't regulate in any way, what is your reading with batteries that don't have the exact same voltage?
I'm not being critical, I just don't understand:confused::banghead:
:thanks: guys!

Heatsinking the Ophir head is necessary if you do long duration measurements but I think measure 10 Watt laser is possible in short burst. The metal in the Ophir head has enough mass to coop with high power laser in short time.

Almost every laserbeams don't come out straight from the aperture. There is always some degrees off. You need corrective optics to counter that. If you guys mean with misalignment.

So what you're saying is that the ophir can handle long duty cycle so it shouldn't be an issue at 5W. What about voltage discrepancies though?

As far as Sky goes, at least it's getting closer to the 18th.

My question is what exaclty do they mean by heatsinking? like a thick plat of aluminum for the sensor to set of or something? because if thats the case I might see if Mrcrouse could whip me up something.

That seems mostly reasonable except for one part;

If Kevin provides a Fedex, or DHL account number that what I'll use, because otherwise shipping will be WAY over $40.

Question - For underspec lasers, is a refund for the price of the laser, as well as portion of original shipping fee an option?

Frankly the underpec 650nm 300mW is disappointment with it's thick beam. Maybe it's impressive at 1W+ but it's certainly underwhelming at ~270mW.

When you got his account number are the costs automatically sent to him? Also what do you mean with the second part do you want to trade it for another laser?

Got it (noting all down in word file)

You got it! noted it all down for you! I will see what i can do for you you will need to send it regardless of getting a refund or replacement :yh: I am sure you will be satified with the replacement tho as kevin had some making up to do imho ;)

Will note you down for an extra keyed HL tail cap and the pen caps.

@ everybody. MAybe it is wiser to all use his account number. That way it saves me a lot of refunding costs an calculating work. And the costs are directly sent to kevin. Also please only ship the broken laser with wrapping like kevin asked.

I don't know about DHL, but with FedEx for example, if you provide an account number when dropping off the package, the cost of shipping is automatically charged to that account, and associated payment method.

There could be different account types though. I haven't shipped packages using an account number in years, but that's the way it worked when I used my own fedex account on a regular basis. I dropped off the package, and would get billed automatically.

For the second part, I'm asking if it's possible to get a refund for an underspec laser instead of a replacement.

Alternatively, though I haven't given it any thought, if the price of the laser can be credited toward a different laser instead, and that laser bought at GB pricing. For example, two of the HL532 50mW, and I would cover the difference in price.

I'm giving away the first HL532 50mW for a friend for this birthday tomorrow. Really looking forward to that :D:D

The Ophir head has two holes on each side. I think the case need heatsinking for more than 5 Watt lasers.

I was also thinking about this, I would be happy to keep my underspec HL 532 and be given a partial refund so what I paid would be equivalent to a ~200mw HL 532.

The HL 532 150 was $85 and the 300 was $145, so if I got a 40$ refund, it would come out to me paying about $105 for the HL 532, which is what a GB price for the 200mw would be around I believe.

Hmm, no, I was thinking I'd send the laser back altogether for a refund, or credit toward another laser, not that I would keep the underspec laser, but with a discount.

Given that Kevin is basically saying he doesn't trust us, and will retest all lasers received back, I doubt he would go for that.

Trust is kind of a two was street though, mine is worn thin. Suppose I'm extra cranky due to today being that day designed to depress people who are single.

If I could get a locking tailcap for my LP460 (free gift), that would be great. No big deal if not though.

Does anyone else's LP460 emit a faint, high-pitched whine when activated? I assume it's because the laser needs a boost driver to run off of 3 volts input. I hope nothing is wrong with it.

Would a 3.7 volt 10440 plus spacer work in the LP460? I think most boost drivers are designed to vary the boost based on the input voltage, aren't they?

Maybe I got lucky, but all of my lasers arrived and everything appears to be intact, no broken cases, no missing parts. I did get the correct gift, the blue LP460. But I can't LPM anything, so for all I know they could all be underspec. I guess the consolation there is that the diodes should be less likely to die on me.

I used to write parking tickets for Ohio University when I was in college there. Guess which day always brought out TONS of illegal parkers, and which I always signed up to work? :)

I have sold my LP450-80 laser and the buyer heard a high pitch wine. I haven't heard it because of my hearing deficit. Ignorance is sometimes a bless. :)

Hello, I have been asked to post my 2nd Group Buy experience, which for me was positive, as was the first. I ordered a 473nm 30mw (the only one ordered in the 2nd GB I think) and could not be happier with it. It is in the PL host, so it came with the better case, keys, and one of each plug to complete the circuit. The color of the beam speaks for itself (see below pics). I also ordered a 638nm 120mw pen, 3 pen tripods, which have the device to screw down and keep the button pressed to keep the laser on without holding it down or having to use a clip which I have been doing. I also got the PL tripod which came with an adaptor to fit the HL series, of which I have, a 405nm 500mw from the first GB. I had ordered this tripod from Skylasers in an earlier purchase not related to a GB and it did not have this adaptor, so that was great. I also ordered the cap gratings and they do exactly what they are supposed to do. My only negative was the gift was supposed to be the 460nm 80mw pointer in white and I got a 532nm 50mw flasher. But after getting it I really like it because when the button is depressed it stays on. Part one of my order was shipped Fed Ex and took 9 days and Part 2 was DHL and took 5 days. I do not have a LPM yet so I don't know if they or underspec. I do know that all of what I ordered meet or excede my expectations and will assist me in my photographic endeavors. Here is a pic of teh 473 and a few of teh 473 in use

Cngratz with that 473nm :D

It sure looks nice!

Did you LPM it ? warm it up first before you took it outside in the cold ?

DPSS 473nm like's a bit of heat.

Hi Smeerworst, thanks. Yes, I have discovered that the 473 does not like the cold. Since it is winter in NJ, USA and cold, I do warm up my lasers in my small downstairs bathroom by cranking up the heat for about 15 mins be I shoot to warm them up before I shoot. I am going to purchase one of ARGlasers LPM's when he completes his project soon, and I will know then if it at spec
