CLOSED! Now Distributing ROUND 2!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

When packages are received by Fedex or DHL they usually move pretty fast. This is the same scenario I was afraid of in the original GB, although in that case the lasers did arrive over a month later.

1 Shipment information received HONG KONG - HONG KONG 10:47

"Shipment information received", not package received. Very different things I believe. The package was never received.

There's a reason why I posted my first DHL shipment info.;)

Order has been processed but I don't call that shipped/received.

First DHL batch order line 1 says:

1 Shipment picked up HONG KONG - HONG KONG 00:38

This DHL shipment line 1 says:

1 Shipment information received HONG KONG - HONG KONG 10:47

Ah like that. Well only kevin can tell what is going on. So let's wait for his reply.

Greetings,,

The second part of my order was stuck in "Shipment information received" for several days until I mentioned it here, then it quickly became "Shipment picked up." Coincidence? Unfortunately, it looks like I got another underspec laser, for the first time with a partially damaged box. A preliminary test shows the HL808 1 W is putting out 778 mW. That's 4/5 underspec. The gift pen is overspec, though.

I ended up reluctantly potmodding my underspec HL460 to 100 mW, wary about the fact that it was close to spec, and under some special conditions it might output 90 mW (but not any that I had seen). The tailcap current is now 160.5 mA.

There is absolutely no reason that you should have to do that, nor should it void your warranty.

I really don't get the logic here on Skylasers part... hobbyists TEST their lasers, to me that's a given. Sending underspec lasers is a good way to lose repeat business.

Sucks about the broken box... seems to be a trend. Personally I would have been fine with cheaper shipping, and no broken boxes.

Understand why you did the pot adjustment. You were stuck in the middle of how to handle the situation which could have turned out much worse if you sent it back and they said it was within spec. Tough call. I applaud you for being open and honest about what you did.
Was your front sticker aligned properly and the hole allready the correct size or did you have to trim it? My 650 was the only unit that the sticker was perfect.
Without looking it up I have no idea if the sticker not being cut back on an 808 would make any difference.
No movement on my HL. I do realize that it is not likely to move until the 18th. Maybe I'll get a notice that it is "shipped shipped" that day:p
Regardless, there are many questions that we deserve an answer too. One in particular that keeps coming back to me is why none of the lp units came with safeties. The Sky site hasn't yet changed to reflect that that feature is gone. Of course their site has/had been a bit of a mess thru this GB. Did anyone get an lp from them at any time in the past that came with them? That doesn't matter really but I am curious:thinking:
Have a great day guys!

Exactly. The HL650 is clearly misaligned (part of the round dot is cut off) and the HL532 is terribly underspec. I don't think a slow response LPM could make an on spec laser look underspec since the (weighted) average output over 30-60 sec should be on spec consistently. Peaking above spec briefly then dropping so rapidly that the average value is way below spec can't be considered on spec.

I removed the aperture stickers from all the HLs, and doing so only helped the 650, but not enough to make it on spec or fix the misalignment. The 808 has no aperture shutter (unfortunately, since it's a good safety feature, particularly for such a dangerous laser, and the website says it has one), and its aperture is larger than all the others. Its sticker is pre-trimmed, so there's no need to remove or trim it.

mine is off a hair on the left side but only i noticeable when unfocused.

Hmm, I didn't even pay attention to alignment. As long as the laser beam is not hitting the aperture, good enough imo.

I didn't look at alignment either. Doubt it's off or not by much as I'm pretty observant.

No aperture shutter on the 808....

I think maybe Sky needs a disclaimer on their site that says something like "Any similarities between lasers shown and actual lasers provided are merely coincidence":tsk:
Funny but not so funny especially when safeties are involved.
False advertising like the lps.

hey guys. no update from kevin yet. Probably partying his ass of right now. Anyway my beams are very slightly misaligned aswel but just like IE said i dont care as long as the beam does not hit the sides i am okay with that.

greetings,,

To be clear about the misalignment in my HL650, it's bad enough that the beam is only partially exiting the aperture. I think this is a large part of what's making it underspec, but it's also a defect in itself.

UPDATE GUYS GOT MAIL!

Hey

Answers for a few questions:

- what type of shipping should they use to send it back?

USPS, or Fedex DHL via my account number,I will be back to offise on Feb.18.

- is there a maximum of what it should cost to ship it back as it is sometimes very expensive to ship from US to asia.

the shipping cost should be lower than USD 40,and write the products name flashlight needs repair, and prices laser than USD 20,and only the laser tube with fine package of inner box bubble,do not send the box back. If they can send back via USPS or postal, please send back right now, then I will get the lasers when I am back to office.

- when do you want the videos and when do you want the members to ship underspec lasers?

right now.

- Do DOA lasers also need to be shipped back?

dead on arrival products, need send back,we should test and avoid the same problem.

- member Pman his new HL450 is stuck in china and is not shipped yet. And he still misses a regular tail cap without the keylock for HL laser.

I cannot check his new HL450 is stuck in china and is not shipped ye.
he still misses a regular tail cap without the keylock for HL laser? The cap for blue lasers are simple caps without the keylock.

- why did pen lasers did not get the locked end caps?

Now,some resellers need the pen lasers are simple caps without the keylock,so we have no enough keylock caps in stock,if they need the caps with the keylock,we can send that free.

Greetings,
Kevin

Now i think the best way to handle this the following way. You guys send me all your films. Even if you allready sent it please send it again as i get tons of pm's lately and i don't want to miss out on any of your vids. I will reply this pm with their postal adress or if you wish to wait for kevin his fedex or dhl account number that is fine also.

I will the compile all video's and send them at once to kevin. Making the video is not only for kevin's sake but also proof of how you measured the laser in current condition.

I hope that way that all complaints are handled properly. Also if you you like a keyed end cap for your laser pen. Let me know.

Greetings,,

That seems mostly reasonable except for one part;

the shipping cost should be lower than USD 40,and write the products name flashlight needs repair, and prices laser than USD 20,and only the laser tube with fine package of inner box bubble,do not send the box back. If they can send back via USPS or postal, please send back right now, then I will get the lasers when I am back to office.

If Kevin provides a Fedex, or DHL account number that what I'll use, because otherwise shipping will be WAY over $40.

Question - For underspec lasers, is a refund for the price of the laser, as well as portion of original shipping fee an option?

Frankly the underpec 650nm 300mW is disappointment with it's thick beam. Maybe it's impressive at 1W+ but it's certainly underwhelming at ~270mW.
