Re: CHANGES to the Buy/Sell/Trade Board

The problem as to being a Mod would be to understand the
intended meanings of the written words....
That becomes a delicate matter for members that are not
comfortable in a non native language unless they were 100%
multi-lingual in grammar and it's meaning nuances...

It difficult enough to translate another language into English
as you can see from most of the Chinese seller sights. Half
of the text is Chinglish with skewed meanings...

I agree, for example, I usually write scientific papers in English, but sometimes it's much more difficult for me to understand some long conversations on the forum!!

Just a question,

Can a mod dump all the stupid stickies? Like the T-mart one :) That would be great!

From what I've read they will be gone when their paid time is up.

Or you can pay for them to be gone instantly. :D
Stickies and banners are a necessity to keep the forum financial healthy.

I'm not sure that is an option

There are contracts in place for them

Re: CHANGES to the Buy/Sell/Trade Board

Greetings,

While changing the parameters needed to post a new thread for sellers is probably a good thing, it is not a very good thing for someone like me who is just looking to buy a few thiings and read the posts so that I can learn a bit more and not come across as a complete moron.
It will likely be a year or longer before I will have 20 messages posted ! Look at my handle, ( using that term should date me ! ) moe ron, that should be enough to show I am not quite up to speed on laser technology and need time to read and learn. Even so that does not change the fact I would like to try to buy a few things and when there no threads about what I am looking to buy, since I have not posted enough messages to start a new thread means it will be even longer for me to post any mesages to get to the 20 needed to start a new thread.
I am not a spammer and will likely never have anything to sell, just an old man looking to enjoy a few simple pleasures like electronic gadgets, toys, lasers, computers and such.

I take it this post does not count towards the 20 I need either.....

Thanks,
Moe

I don't post very much, but even I think that's a bit ridiculous. You have 18 and I would assume most are laser related. You could reach 20 today easily. No way it would take an entire year.

Re: CHANGES to the Buy/Sell/Trade Board

You are only prevented from making a thread in one section of the forum, until you have 20 posts.

This does not prevent you from posting in the other sections, nor does it prevent you from posting replies on existing threads in the B/S/T section, or sending private messages.

All this means, nothing is preventing you from learning, or buying. After all, you are looking to buy, by your own words, not to sell.

The 20 post requirement was created to discourage people from making ridiculous posts, or flooding the section with spam.

Re: CHANGES to the Buy/Sell/Trade Board

I noticed that the last BST thread I tried to post last night took many hours to go live. Are we supposed to be actively notifying mods each time we post a thread?

From reading the info about this new policy, it sounds like mods are notified automatically, and then just have to press "activate". But I'm wondering if maybe that's not the case in reality?

Are we supposed to PM Daguin / one of the other mods after every thread submission?

(honestly, the system sounds like a good idea - but maybe isn't quite implemented correctly)

I posted a BST thread a few hours ago, and without thinking, didn't quite complete it as fully as I wanted. I left out the photo, thinking (as I often do) that I would tweak it within a few minutes of submission, add the photo, modify my working, fix spelling, etc. Of course, as soon as I pressed submit, the listing disappeared, and I no longer had access to modify it (and presumably won't, until it is activated). Of course, the solution is to use "preview" in the future, before actually submitting the thread. But this setup seems unnecessarily awkward.

Re: CHANGES to the Buy/Sell/Trade Board

The mods will do it without being sent a PM. Sometimes all of them are not at the computer and able to though, so it takes a few hours. I would really like to see another mod on the team, even after the addition of Ped.

I would also like the ability to edit the post before it gets approved, I'm not sure there is a way for Avery to implement this though.
