Hello everyone!
Im a noob in laser world, in fact i just recently got a peek into it.
I have recently bought a rgb laser projector, and after some time looking trough the forum I have learned that I have bought a metal case of junk :) I came to the audio/video shop and got mesmerised by the light in the showcase room.
The next day I bought my first laser. Sadly it was LASERWORLD ES-800 RGB
It costed me about $900:( and i thought it was a decent deal.

My question is; in how many ways is the $200 REKE500 better than my $900 ES-800rgb ? Except ILDA which is the main reason im considering buying this one too.
(As I learned trough the way, I can not create patterns over DMX, only change stored ones :( )

And, one last question
1. Can I change the 5kbps ("3-8kbps" in es800 rgb) scanner into something like a 25kbps speed scanner
2. Would i benefit from it
3. Would it be hard to change it by myself

This is my first forum post, so be gentle :D

Thanks!

1 Maybe but it will not as easy as you wish it were.
2 sure the reke is quite flickery and more K means better image.
3 not an easy task- your $$ might be better spent working towards a DIY full color pj--the reke is NOT analog so only seven colors.

there are a lot more things to consider but that will get you started.

to make pretty stuff with the Reke you will need some ilda software and a DAC (hardware) I have one of the best.. Pangolin QS FB 3. smrp 600$

by adding your location to your profile page we will know where you are and can help you better.

WELCOME to the forums.

i am interested in an ILDA card also.

Check the sticky in the review section, I give an in depth review of this projector.

The Reke has slightly less power than what you have but other than that the Reke has it beat.

The unit you have 3-8 kpps stepper scanners, the Reke has a 10 kpps GALVO scanner. This means the scanners on the Reke are faster and more precise.

The ILDA control is a nice benefit because you can easily interconnect a DAC and a PC to control the show and generate custom graphics.

The Reke has a knob to set the pattern size as well.

Other than that not much difference.

They are both TTL and both support DMX control... and music control.

If you are willing to spend at the very least $300 on ILDA hardware and software get the Reke otherwise it won't be much of an upgrade.

1) Yes you can do anything you want, it's just a set of moving mirrors in front of the laser aperture. A good set of scanners runs over $250 though.

2) Yes your images would be more precise and flicker less.

3) Yes it would be difficult trying to make it fit in the existing box it's in.. They usually pack them pretty tight and glue everything down... You may have to build a custom box and move the whole projector into it if you went that route.

Laserlands???
Mine came from Lasersman-no PP.
you can buy a pre-loaded Credit card and pay using that. aside from the 'ilda' card you would need lasershow software too. .

no idea how long they will be on sale..

the reke will make a nice beam satilite PJ once my DIY 2W pj is FINALLY done..I have found unless your music is quite loud the sound reactive feature does not work very well- place a small speaker close and it works better.

Ouch, $900 is a high price! From the specs and the videos I saw on Youtube the Reke would outclass that laser projector in every way. While the Reke can technically display any pattern that ES800RGB can produce, you'd need to use the ILDA input to avoid those lame patterns the automated mode provides.

For upgrading such system, you'd need to completely replace the fast steppers in it with a set of galvos, and have a control system to provide input for both the galvos and the lasers. However...

I'd would not try and upgrade your ES800RGB. The ES800 is more valuable as the original single product rather than an "upgraded" system if you have the opportunity to sell it on some place like eBay. It actually isn't too expensive, parts-wise to make your own projector, at least compared to what you paid for the ES800. If you can sell the ES800, even at a loss, you can put the money towards a good set of lasers, galvos, and other equipment for the system you want, not just shoehorn parts into what will end up serving as a nice case that used to belong to a different system you should have just sold. The latter is what happened to two projectors I bought that were essentially Rekes: they'll be nice overpriced cases and pieces of metal for beam combining, but it would've probably cost mess less to source the parts myself.

I added an aux in for that very reason :p

not sure how they work there , but here in USA- you get the card at many stores and you pay the amount you need on it and the store 'adds' that to the card. then you use it like a debit card. you keep the card and can add more money to it for use later.
hope this helps................hk

Thank you guys for all your support!
I kinda always knew I got a bit overexcited when I bought the ES800. As for the scanner replacement in the ES-800, I even guess it would not have any effect because the internal chip (stored patterns) would not know how to use faster scanning speeds. Channel 4 on the DMX controls the scan speed, user-manual says it goes from 0-255 (so 255 steps) but it has only 3; ultra slow, slow, and flickering fast :) I would probably even need to somehow reprogram the patterns to allow faster scanning... That would be too big of a hustle for me, so I think I will try to sell it eventually as Bionic suggested it.

And thanks again, I just learned the difference between GALVO scaning system and Stepper system :)

And one last little question; what would be the most affordable non-TTL (so I guess analog?) RGB laser. To get all the nice colors, not just the 5-6 I have? Very sorry for the offtopic, hope I didnt went too far.

Pretty expensive, let's just say. It would be cheaper for you to just build one. It's also not just the laser system that accepts analog, you need the electronics to accept those signals and appropriately drive your lasers. That involves tuning, etc.

The analog red, green, blue lasers themselves total about $500-600 from Aixiz.com.

An analog RGB would be over $5K for one that only does 1W or so with fast (30k+) galvos. [guestimate]
Meanwhile, I am trying to get my REKE 500mW to work with a DMX 512 board I just got (Elation professional).
I know it has to do with the dip switches on the RGB, but neither the REKE manual or the Elation Manual dip-switch settings are working for me. Got any advice Pete?

NVM: Dip-switches are as stated in the manual: on-off-off-off-off-off-off-off-off-off-on ... And the DMX board has to be on "fixture 1". Then the sliders and buttons change the patterns on the REKE.

*video coming when I get some time

I got DMX working fine with mine... Most people get the thing confused because they think they have to set the address seperate from the DMX dip switches... I uploaded some DMX info in my OP in the review section in the sticky.

ash, tnx for reply. dmx universe can sometimes be a tricky thing. especially if u want to use more fixtures. i never did fully know the math on the dip switches, cause i use a cool app on my ipad. if u have an iphone, ipod or ipad try searching dmx in the appstore, theres a cool, free, simple app that helps you assign dmx adresses if you have like 10 or more fixtures. cant believe i actually provided some help on this boards :)

-needless to say, I'm still figuring it out.-

THanks for the help. :D
But, I'm not understanding how an app for my iPhone 4 will help me control the DMX board. I'm not making the connection  (pun intended)

I made a DMX guide (text) and a Freestyler fixture for that unit. It's attached to my review in the sticky in the reviews section. That should fill you in on any missing details.

I wanted to get a neat panel like that but I ended up going for the PC DMX controller and then moved to ILDA.

I think the app just helps you calculate the DIP switches for setting a particular DMX address.

Nice fogger I guess it's not DMX though :( I added X10 control to mine so I can use my RF remote or PC control it... Is that glass frame not giving you super bad reflections?
