Yellow pointer *Beam shots added*

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

wow theres more knowledge here for a person to take in it blows my mind a diy yellow NO-WAY...does anyone know if the 803-t's have the correct cubes for this project

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

Another very creative job! I was planning on doing this also. Is alignment a problem?

Now what you need to do is stick a 15-20mW 635nm red in there to get a better balance with the green.

post a beamshot!!

(Sigh, I wish I had some machining tools)

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

Oh yes ;) the beams on my pointer diverged big time.
I made the mistake of tweaking it before the glue was fully set and had to do some re-sticking. Then spent about an hour of fine tuning.......

Now what you need to do is stick a 15-20mW 635nm red in there
The red is very weak, even with the green split twice and pulsed it is too strong, I am going to see if underdriving will make any difference.

If you have some just try shining different colours on various faces of the cube to see what works, that is what I did with the PS3 cubes.

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

are there 2 different switches, so you can have a red, green or yellow pointer?

You can indeed :)

This is very much a development job, there is room for improvement.
I have been playing with the optics for so long that I have got them a bit messy and it has effected the dot in that it is not as crisp as I would like but it is only obvious in the dark, it is quite usable as a tri-colour pointer for presentations :)

I may take these cubes off and start again due to the above and for the following reasons:-
with the red being offset so far to the side, the beam runs right up the edge of the cube and this makes it hard to keep the cube inside the diameter of the pointer.

Therefore the cube over the green needs to be raised so that the beams come together rather than next to each other, See drawing.....

I hope this info may help others who are considering this build.

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

I thought about doing that, but thought the cube alignment would be near impossible to achieve. Does it maintain a nice yellow beam at long distances?

Re: Yellow pointer (DX mod)  ;)

At the moment I can set it to get a reasonable yellow between 15ft and about 30ft
but that is due to the problem stated above.... I am going to rework it, it can be improved :)

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

So today I rebuilt it :)
Instead of the cubes I used the filters from above the lens assy on the PS3 sled. I turned up a plastic sleeve to fit over the top of the pointer, so I have a bit more room for mounting stuff.
Sled picture follows......

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

....3 screws removes the lens assy and beneath it is the plastic mounted filter we are going to use......

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

trim the bottom off and stick a copper wire mount to it and stick it over the green laser......

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

Take a second filter add a wire frame and fix that one over the red laser using masking tape to hold it in place for sticking.......

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

This is much easier to set up and the output is so much cleaner :)
I am waiting for the glue to set fully then I will do some more pictures of the beam and the finished item.

The cubes were worth a try but they are too fiddly to work with without getting glue and finger prints on the important places.

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

and who said the Wizard of Oz doesn't exist Sweet mod Rog. Think i'm gonna need to hop on Ryan air to Standstead to check your stuff out :) They have flights from my town :)

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

you should sell sets to make them.

EDIT:You could sell the ps3 diode and make rgv lasers. :o

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

Thats awesome rog... I cant wait to see the new pics!!

Re: Yellow pointer *updated*

Very nice, but I'm still so amazed you got them to line up correctly using just copper wire.
