www.Lasers4America.com is coming

Sounds intimidating to start something up in the US. Maybe this site should remain a project and link to upcoming hosts without actual laser sales if the owner wants to keep his hands clean.

Alright, I give.

The idea here is LARGE module fitment (~300-600mW) + 18650.

why would a laser need brightness or strobe settings.... that looks JUST like a high-end LED I saw somewhere.

I never made any mention of a laser that would have them. :undecided: You are seeing them in a photo, but the final product would have them removed with new anodizing applied so the symbols are gone.

It is a high-end LED host. Almost every custom laser host begins life as either a standard Mag-lite or an LED light host, and then new guts are machined and put in place of the old parts.

I'm not going to beat around the bush, this is by no means a host intended for someone on a budget.

Just like that green laser is pointing right back down to the person in the crowd for the police; That website is pointing right back to you for the FDA.

Duck and cover, dude!

BTW - for the NooB's in the audience. That's how easy it is for the police to see your laser and to find your address once they see your laser in the sky. The person in that crowd was lucky because he WAS in a big crowd at the time. Your house is not so hard to keep track of ;)

Peace,
dave

Yeah, that website is actually pointing back to an IP which I have no association with. :na:

I helped with photos and a video, but that's nothing illegal on my part.

I brought this up to him tonight over the phone. Complete builds = terminated, due to reasons mentioned by those here. Kits are another story.

I'm pursuing the host I posted 100%. I think it's a very high-quality host and will not drop that thought.

Am I the only one here who likes a strike bezel on a large 18650 host? It's made for 3xCR123s originally.

I'm not sure where you would find a 532nm module that is 300-600mW that would fit that host. Most 532nm modules are 12mm they can go up to 200mW.
If you want a 532nm module that is putting out 300-600mW your going to have to go for one of the RPL style modules. Those are much bigger. Plus all the ones I have seen including my own 350mW RPL style laser. All have the final culminating lens separate, from the actual module. So you would have to incorporate a lens mount in the host at the correct distance.

All the other debate aside, I wouldn't want my best laser in that host, with the tail switch. Who wants a nice high power laser you either twist you wrist to use/power on/off, or have to hold up or beside your head like a police flashlight? I don't.

If it is large enough to fit the larger modules, like the o-like IR filtered modules, It may be easy enough to put a side button on there, and just use the tail button as a safety switch, or replace it with a key switch...

The o-like modules have a switch on them, all that would be needed is a hole drilled for a button. As long as there is room inside...

Yeah I hate the tail switch too. For the reasons above, and it opens the door for a mistake. A couple of times I fumbled with the tail switch and almost shot the laser at someone.

I was just thinking... I'm not really sure when I'd use a strike bezel with a laser. I might like that host as a flashlight though. LOL

will

Personally, I like a nice tail switch far more than a side push button. To me, side buttons detract from the look a bit. But then again, I've never had a laser with a nice side button....if they exist :p

I prefer the tail switch, because it keeps the hand in a natural position next to the head when aiming, which allows your eyes to look down the beam more easily.

No, you would obviously NOT use the strike bezel.

are you saying you can't put you hand where you want it on a host with a side clickie ? come on.....:(
BTW here are a few green hosts for you to consider...

and a side clickie.

No, I actually didn't say that at all. ;)

I don't hold lights with my thumb on the side to aim, I hold my thumb on the back light end. If it's already there when I'm holding it, it makes a great place for a button to exist.

Side click switches aren't too bad for me. Side momentary switches would be very bad for my aiming habits. I'd be trying to use my pinkie to hold the laser on. :o
