Windows 10 , Have you?

Running Win 10 on 3 machines ,

Installed from disk on two of them , updated from Win8.1 on the other , still no problems at all .
 





Yep, I've updated two so far without issue. One was a 5 to. 7 year old laptop running Windows 7.

I work in a computer / phone repair shop and 99.99999% of problems I see are malware or bundled software, I can't remember the last time I saw a genuine bone-fide virus.

AVG free works fine on Win 10 though.
 
I've run into some bugs... windows 10 has a very very annoying habit of wanting to update drivers without asking first... end result is my headphones cut out on me a few times.

Clean install is running with by far the fewest problems, so my suggestion is once you upgrade, get your key (though you don't have to) and then to do a clean install on the same machine.

Using Avast, and Mbam at home. I do have the alert pop up once in a while, but agree, it's mostly malware that seems to be an issue nowdays.
 
There are programs that you can use to pull your key, before and after the upgrade. Don't remember what I used exactly, but it was just a basic script, not even a program as such.

If you have Ultimate, you will be upgraded to windows 10 Pro, and the same, either 32 or 64bit depending on what you have currently. There is no Windows 10 Ultimate edition unfortunately.

Personally I'm using home edition on 4 computers, and have not run into issues with it yet. At least not since they changed the option to reschedule updates.

Technically you shouldn't even need to do that - so long as you upgrade is showing as valid, it should carry over automatically. W10 registration is tied to the mobo.

For one PC I upgraded, I wasn't able to use the key, but it was validated after I finished doing the install.

I used some program to locate my key( i could easily do that searching in the registery too), wrote it down and used it in the fresh win 10 installation. it shows up as activated now. :beer: i guess doing a clean install is the best option. the other time i tried win 10 it was just after upgrading from win 7 with heavy loaded hard drives and programs. something went wrong there and it kept freezing on boot. now it's all good!
as for antivirus, i sticked with eset Smart security 9 for now. on win 7 i had eset 4 and i was very satisfied.
so all in all, win 10 seems to be pretty stable now. then again i have a very high end rig now, guess it doesnt make a difference as long as you wipe everything and install win 10 fresh you should be ok.

Every install I've done upto now (20+) has been in "in place" upgrade over Windows 7/8 , and had zero problems, and are, to this day, still working fine, including my own 2 machines. :confused:

I have been a member of Windows 7 and Windows 10 Forums for about 8 months or so to see what little tidbits I could pick up. I skipped 8 for obvious reasons:cryyy: The 10 Forum has some Microsoft people there and has been helpful.

Here is what I was told. Once you upgrade from seven to ten, you will get a new key. Should you need to go back to Windows seven, you don't use your old key but the new key you get for Windows ten. Whatever MS can do to make life more difficult, they do.

Yesterday I spoke with a friend of mine, an interesting guy who was a nuclear engeeneer on US subs prior to becoming an Inerventional Radiologist. He is also an IT guy and the IT Officer for the Hospital....deals with HIPPA compliance etc.

I asked him if he switched over to ten. He said no, that for the PCs he still uses seven but that seven years ago he finally purchased a Mac, something I have not yet done. He tells me the same thing other friends of mine who have switched to Macs have said.....great hardware.....better OS. I just don't feel that at my age I want to learn another OS...perhaps I should.

There is some site, hackamac or something to that effect that lists what you need to build your own Mac. Since I have been building PCs for awhile, I am thinking I might just try doing that. I have been researching putting together a high end flight sim and was going to use an I7 or server CPU. I don't know what CPU the newer Macs use.

Common Sense is still the best anti virus. Haven't run one in quite a while, and my computers are all clean.

Viruses are almost always caused by users opening somthing they shouldn't have. Just think twice before running an executable, and ignore unsolicited messages (hot singles in your area, download more ram, ect.)
