When I lived in Toledo we would get those big centipedes a few times a year.

I hate bugs. One of the things that I love about Southern California is that the bugs are all fairly small (sans scorpions and tarantulas which you never really see outside of the desert) and there are virtualy no mosquitos.

I did a year in Okinawa while I was in the Marines and holy crap... crawling through the jungle there is not a task for the feint of heart. Everywhere you looked there were bugs and mosquitos - Banana Spiders were all over the place. They get big. :shiver: I don't know how those guys in WWII handled that. They were some tough hombres for sure.

Thanks for the tips, Wannaburn! If I ever move back to Jersey I'll be sure to do that. Back then (last time I lived there was a little over 2 years ago) I didn't have a fog machine, and only had a handful of older (90's and early 2000's) class 3B lasers.

If you look for ways to get rid of them on the net, many say there is now way to do it.
I could not live with that, as I cant stand anything that looks like them and move so damn fast.

I have tried many things without hitting the house with chemicals.. This one seems to be the most
effective.

Seeing the pics of those large spiders freaks me out, we get nothing like that here.
I think the biggest spider we get are near the lakes called 'dock spiders'.

P.S. If anybody totally lost their minds and souls, and wishes to know where the above picture is from, Mammoth backyard spider devours bird , ofcourse it's from Australia, where even the rocks want you dead.

Stumbling into one of the Golden Orb webs when you've been drinking is a pretty scary experience. The webs are pretty damn strong and you feel like you're going to be the next meal for a horde of them :gun:

But it's not just the spiders, snakes, scorpions that'll hurt you. Even our cute and cuddly wildlife will rip your eyes out.

The worst experience you can have with a spider is waking up with a tarantula on the ceiling right above you. (almost as big as my outstretched hand)

I was paranoid for about a month after that.

We've had a few house centipedes in my house too.

I actually found out what they were by looking up "land shrimp"...

because they kind of look like land shrimp!

It's kind of neat to watch their legs move; they move them in a sort of "wave" fashion.

Ugh... going through this thread made me shiver. I absolutely hate insects in any form... spiders especially.

Unfortunately NJ has it's fair share of things that crawl. Getting bugs off of the ceiling so I can kill them is actually the only practical use I have for my lasers. ~1.5W 445nm works best.

2 years of my childhood was spent in Azores, Portugal. 2 things were infesting our house then, those house centipedes (they're definitely over 3in) and mold. Then in Florida we'd have who swathes of palmetto bugs. They're like 3-4in cockroaches with wings. They came out at night, and you'd see one just hangin on on a wall in front of you, then when you went to kill it, it'd speed past the sound barrier under the nearest object. Once night when I couldn't sleep, they came out and were flying all around my room, one landed on me and crawled around my face. They're nasty buggers (no pun intended)

Ugh, I hate cockroaches. Only because they carry disease and are so hard to remove. When I lived in Tn we had 2 infestations which came from neighboring apartments; cockroaches and biting flies.

My mom's apartment had those tiny cockroaches that are like 0.2-0.5in long. INFESTED. Easily thousands of them, if it was dark and you turned on the light, it was like a moving carpet for a few seconds while they scurried away under and in things. It was horrific.

I once watch a movie about a guy in a sterile room totally lock-off the outside world but then cockroaches are crawling in the room from the drain hole. I can't remember what movie it was but it was very creepy.
