Hey everyone,

So i was searching in youtube and i found that u can "mod" this laser
Hot 5mW 405nm Violet Purple Blue Ray Laser Pointer Pen Beam Light Lamp Powerful | eBay
Well, you just have to remove the cap upfront and turn the lens around, and get it to focus. This will make it burn. Is this actually true?
Its a 5mw violet pen laser.
Here is the video that i've found.
How to EASILY hack a $5 laser pointer to burn - YouTube
Also something last, will i need glasses for the use of it?(5mw laser)
Thanks ,
Alex

I don't think that a violet laser of 5mw will not burn much. But since most of the time those lasers are over spec you might just be lucky. As for the focusing those lasers are set to infinite focus, you can take the cap off and turn the lens but it would mean a big mod and for that it would be better if you bought a focusing laser and not a pen style one.

No the caps don't come off easy! And the lens arnt easy to focus. But I've had luck with a paper clip slid inside the cap and then turned the lens in and out to focus.

I bought 3 of them.
By the way, awillis i used to have 2 of them although green ones and it came off pretty easy, even though i didnt know what I was doing.
Something last,
I used to have a violet one like the one in the video and suddelny it started to burn a little, is it possible that the lens moves alone?I mean from the shaking or something?

Thanks in advance,

FYI, the guy in that video is an idiot. he is using sunglasses for safety glasses bahahaha i wanted to flame him on youtube but didnt want to start a fight :na:

I will make a thread when i get my violet lasers on how to mod it and if its possible :)

Actually, I know of someone who has been making their $5 pens fully focusable for almost no $:)
This is what happens when Pete gets bored:p

Yes, they all can pop balloons, light matches, and easily focus from closeup to infinity (although the 532nm can only focus up close a few inches from the cap or you will unscrew the lens completely).
405nm and 650nm are stable and are great at burning. I love the smell of smoking ants in the morning;)
Have been thinking about doing a tutorial with pics for some time now...

Nice! I wonder if there is something that i can focus it with, without the need of opening it up and changing it with a small screwdriver

The magnifying glass way is not efficient at all. Anything added in the beam path is going to drop output. My way uses the stock lens in it's original position (not flipped over). Small screwdriver isn't the way to focus if it is like most lenses that have 2 small holes.
Yes, those labels are mw output from cheapo pens on standard alkalines. Yes, I need to change the left purple unit to a white label as I only label the units 100mw+ with yellow labels.
None of the caps are scratched by the way and I can make one of these in about an hour:). All the purple/violet/405nm have some GITD in the end caps for that nice afterglow also.
I can see that I'm going to have to commit to starting a thread on this or I'll be flooded with a million questions. It takes time to show and explain it properly.
I'll just say that it's easier than you might think if you are careful and think about what you are doing. When I write it up with pics, it will make a lot of sense.
Please before anyone asks, I don't do this to sell them. Not interested in building to sell right now at all. It's so inexpensive to just do it yourself anyways. Might cost a quarter to do it (small amount of epoxy).
