WOW -- I got my goldie today. Let it warm a little and tried it.
No output I SHUTTER to think I forgot to twist the front door knob ;D Who come up with that thing anyway ??
I ran it for a few seconds because it was still cold and hit 260 mW

Also, I figured how that locking ring works... Nice design.

sighs*** I am having troubble convincing my skeptical and pessimistic father this isnt a scam.... How do I express the forum's and my trust for Dr. Lava in words... lol

lol I know its not a scam, im sure of it, my dad is da problem. I managed to get him ot wait a bit. I said that I garuntee if this isnt in my hands by march 10th, Ill pay him twice the money of the laser in cash. he agreed. (he paid with his card, because we made a deal that I'd pay $240, hed pay the rest.

LOL, i do hope I get it by march 10th... or im screwed...

well, they finally gave it back, and agreed since its near the Persian new year, that they would back off on the bet. that, and it arrived a few days after march 10th.

Man, if I had to pay 800 dollars, i'd be screwed!!

he sure does like the laser though!! its the first green laser he has ever seen in his life, its the first laser that hes seen where the beam is clearly visible in daylight (indoors), and its the first green laser hes seen that burns!!

I also think another reason he "took" it was for me to clean my room ;D ;D somehow it showed up on my desk after I spent the morning tidying my room (I had nothing better to do)

anyhow, I love it! and that shutter has scared the living $h^t out of me a couple times, like I accidentally dropped it form like 4 in onto carpet, I instantly went over to the LPM, and got a reading of 70mW then I realized the shutter was half closed ;D ;D

when I woke up this morning, it was around 62*F (COLD!!!! (for CA at least)) I turned on the laser, and untill it got fairly warm, it stayed under 200mW. as soon as it reached around 70*F, it shot up to 260, then gradually rose to about 320.

this thing is awesome, I really do pity anyone who didn't get in on this ;D

BTW, I have a lot of match light and other vids, but Im too lazy to post them. burns hole through slim CD case VERY FAST!! and as I said, thicker plastic (1/8 in) in around 12-15 seconds. It also does a good job at burning hair, and clothing!! ;D ;D

Well Guys,

Glad to hear that the others are doing well.  
Mine is another story, go figure.  

Now that my company has gone, I had a better chance to look this laser over a bit better.
Figured on pulling load tests and such, but when I noticed the dot on the wall as an oval I figured why bother.

It is a solid three dots overlaying each other. (TEM-02?)
When focussed for close burning, I thought I noticed a dark line in the beam were it started to get fat beyond the focal point.
When I looked further down the line, it became very evident w/ just a puff of smoke showing two clear dark lines in the beam.
While observing the dot on the wall at 10ft, it was very oblonged/oval.

This condition is there right upon fire-up and stays there steady the whole run, regardless of temp or battery condition or mw output.

So my hopes of just a wierd burn-in period have gone out the window.  :'(

As much as I have been Praying for it not to have to go back, I have no choice as I see it now.  

So what do I do?
Am I to contact S-KY directly on this problem now?

The pic below I found online while searching for TEM-modes and this one looks identical to my laser's line condition.

When you receive the laser, you may want to clean the threads on the battery contact and lubricate them for cood electrical contact and feel.  This should probably be done every 5th time the battery is replaced, to keep the contact in optimal shape.
Betty said that it is best not to clean the lubricating oil on the threads.

Is there something better to lubricate the threads that one could purchase? Im wondering about the lectrical contact, as i noticed the beam was dim yesterday, and it corrected when I untwisted the cap and rescrewed it while the laser was running.

Eventhough mine is screwed, I thought I noticed the same thing.
But also noted that when sitting on the table shooting the Kenometer, (without moving it at all) that when I would just lay my hand on it, it would jump 20-30mw just about everytime.

So-??????

Maybe something just to try.

As for a better lube product, I know there is something similar to De-Ox that is for aluminum that doesn't have the fine grit like de-ox has w/ good conductivity, but can't recall its name?
If I think of it, I will drop in a note.

There must be something that would prevent the oxidation problems like deox, not sure what it is yet, someone will probably know. This is why I wipe my threads down and regrease them once in a while.

Joe, what is the maximum time that you ran your laser, and with what pause in between? Even during my 3-5 minute tests I don't recall the head ever getting warm-hot to the touch.

I can check with sky tonight about what they say for shipping yours.

Joe- Our warranty is for the 200mW average output only. So if you are going to return yours do it based on your power measurements not the mode issue. My laser is in tem01 and the dot is actually two dots side by side. This is probably why mine has such a huge divergence problem and can't pop a balloon from more than 10 ft away. My laser does however stay above 200mW so I am going to keep it as is. I recommend you contact sky and get a new laser based on the lasers output being under spec. Sorry to hear your laser is so crappy. I hope they take care of you.

I'm hoping there's not an issue with mine, but when I woke up this morning, it quit on me like the battery I was using cut off due to low voltage. Thinking that was it, I took the other cell out of my pocket and replaced it..still nothing. Wiped all the black crap off the threads and regreased them..nothing. Turned the key a few times..nada. Im hoping its just the batteries, but that spare battery was right off the charger this morning, if Im not mistaken. Must check when I get home.
