**** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld laser

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

JoeN ---

First off -- Calm down  :)  This may not be a big problem.

Have you measured the current when it's running 235 vs 185 mW ??  When running 1.5 Amps+  battery current, a small bad connection can be night and day.  I measure using that rear plug thing through my DMM on the 20 Amp range.

Use a cool head and science.

"When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, yell and shout" does not apply here.

Remember that the I^2R law applies here and a 0.10 ohm loss is a bunch.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the support.
I am calm, beleive it or not, just have company, so hard to write and ask and test and play and entertain all at once whileworrying about this.
Plus buliding 2 red open cans right now for them. ;D
I think this one just likes to be warm, really warm for the most part.
But am concerned it takes three minutes to reach 200 most times.
I will post back when I can test it a bit more properly.
Thanks again for the support!
Regards,
Joe

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

well, I come home form snowboarding, and NOOOOO! no package!

I come here :'( read about joes laser :'( :'( :'( :'( then I go to tracking.

guess what. it said DELIVERED!!! AT 12:10PM!!!!

I WAS SCARED!! I though, man its gone, someone stole it...

I take another look, and HEY its behind the flower pot...

so, I run in, I pop the batteries in, grinning, and WOW :o :o :o :o EL BEAMO GOODO!!!

I go over to the thermal power meter, and (sorry gazoo, I just cat resist) HOLY $H^T!!!

It starts at 260mW, then goes up to around 300!!! it then settles at about 290 - 300!! PEAK 310!!!

OMG!!!!

im gonna go run around in circles and scream... ;D ;D ;D

Also, through my OD4 glasses, All I can see is a faint orange spot. is that IR? I cant see ANY green, just that spot. it looks like the dot on my 808....

im scared, is that really IR?

regards,

amk

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

sorry for double post, but the last one was too long.

just some things to add:

I just noticed the third graph of the graphs posted on last page is the one I got! ;D

Lesson learned:
290mW green laser + skin = BAD idea :-/ :-[ :'(

double lesson learned:
be careful when making review videos... lasers aren't the only things that burn skin (stupid hot match head :'( )

I HAVE CONFIRMED: my laser has no IR filter. I get a good 30mW of IR out of it.

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Amk, how close were you taking the measurement? Have you try varying the distance from the meter (2 feet) to see if the power stays the same. IR doesn't travel far in Green Laser, if the reading stays very close from 6in to 2 feet I think that can eliminate IR. Or if you can place an IR filter in front of the beam and take measurement again.

you beat me to it while I was doing spell check ;D

I did one at 10 feet. peak 265mW, with 250mW normal.

ITS AWESOME!!!!

i used a red filter to deflect the green, and only pass the IR at around 1ft. I measured 30mW of IR.

I was pointing this thing at the moon (the only bright object in the sky i'm not afraid to lase...) and some ppl from the house across the street ran out saying WOW MOM LOOK!!!

mom: OMG!!!

kid: ALIENS!!!

me: *chuckle*

EDIT** I was behind a 4ft wall with bamboo sticks making a good 6ft wall, so they didn't see me. All they saw was a green thing coming from the moon to my house...

***yet another edit*** I just did another measurement from 2ft, then moved back to around 6ft. The power reading was 320mW, then as I reached around 6ft, it was at 288-290 mW

OMG!!!

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Hey AMK,
well, you got a good one it seems.
Mine isn't so nice.

(Had an idea for draw measuring, just find another 1/8 inch plug and pigtail the wires out, thus your meter becomes the deadmans switch with an amperage reading at hand, nice and easy. As long as that switch works out like that and not just a closed path inside where it slides in?

But in any event, I think I will be hearing how everyone elses does 300mw, while mine struggles for 200 after three minutes.
I think it may have to go back.

But I am still calm and haven't run the draw tests, but I don't see how those are going to fix my lasers output any.

Thanks, Joe

well, when its cold, (room temp is 68 here...) it starts off at around 160-180, then rises up to +200mW in a matter of about 20 seconds...

what mah batteries are you using? Im using 2200 mAh batteries. they seem to work well

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Good to hear AMK. Mine is staying above 200mW now all the time. It is tricky to get a proper measurement on this laser though with my crappy IR filter. DrLava suggested to go 10 feet back to measure. This seems to be a very key distance. Any closer and the readings get higher. If I continue to go farther they stay pretty much the same as at 10 ft. Try shining your laser toward San francisco and I will tell you if I can see it.

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Ill have to do some tests in regards to IR later when I get some filters. I use my glasses for small greens, but this guy is another story. As far as working better with a discharged battery, I put a brand new batt in the charger for about 2 hours and popped it in the first time I turned it on..310mW in 8-10 secs. I tried it again later and got a peak of 354mW. I haven't done too many tests, but it the mW averages at somewhere near 270 when stabilized.

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

burns a hole through 1/8 in plastic in 15 seconds!!! ;D :o

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Ref- Dr.Lava suggested to stand back from the sensor 10ft. try doing that when you take your measurements. It is easier than using a filter and trying to find out how much green is lost.

popped in new batts, the LPM read 333 mW peak, and 330 mW stable. (this includes IR, the laser was 4in away) so, if you subtract the IR, I was having around 300mW of green right there!

I was shocked, when I tried to put it back in the presentation case, and it DID NOT FIT!! after like 5 mins, I remembered that I had to remove the tailcap ;D

im off to work on my kenbarrel, which is near death at the moment

amk

Re: **** True >200mW 532nm S-KY PGL-200 handheld l

Hey lava, any news on the 2nd batch of lasers to be shipped?

reading all of the posts above on laser arrival makes me curious on the sequel shipment :D

Thanks ;)
