The XBOX 360 HD-DVD high power laser thread

It has a driver my professor whipped up that also uses the laser output to run a wristwatch so we could see when and if it failed. It's powered by a BK Precision PSU and an xbox hd drive power adapter for the reference voltage and power for the watch.

Here is my I,mV plot for my 803T. :)
Im using a solar cell with a ddl driver (potentiometer), i used 2 crossed polarizer to low the mV acquired.
There was no heatsink, only aixiz housing.
I do the same test with a fan, and got the same result but with +10 mv for each value of current., max at 155mA,477 mV 161 mA,471mV.
Hum i will try other diode to find a more powerful one

Good work. 8-)
The graph is inline with majority of 803Ts I encountered.
You should be able to use this setup to measure the efficiency of other 405nm LDs.

WAhou WAHou !  i destroyed my mod (double mxdl) to test the other diode !
I think i have a "freak " diode ! i repeat the experiment twice to be sure, it's amazing, i push it to 200 mA, like Zom-B ! my hand were shaking above 170 ma, my Teeshirt got so wet at 190 ma !  and at 200 ma  :'(    i measured current trough a 1 ohm resistor on a DDL circuit, so its real current (powered by 7x lr20, 10 volt)
I could't go in higher current coz i reach my limit of potentiometer Lol !
This graph can't be compared to the first ( not same focus in solar cell)
solarcellly3.jpg

But im "not" surprised : this diode is a "fresh" diode harvested from a sled few day ago. My first one , run  for 1 month at 100 ma . Like IgorT said, there is maybe not enough degradation on the die with this diode, that why we can go in higher current ?
Im very happy  :D , maybe a bit luck  ;)

I will try to run it at 180/190 ma in a mxdl.
No fan were use in this experiment, the aixiz housing was just warm, not hot at 200 ma

edit : i think that the knee is at 200 ma.

I had one running at 200mA in a kryton barrel. It lasted a little over a week. :(

Hope yours does better than mine! :)

I dunno... average I guess ;D Maybe 15 minutes total use in a day, with a lot of on/off cycles.

blue ray at 125 ma, red 350 ma (Senkat)

Zom-B Your diode at nearly 200 ma is still alive ? how often do you use it ?
Thanks !

Stupid thing is, if these sellers went about it in the right way we may be interested in the products..........Instead they p1ss us off by blitzing the forum and then get banned.... no gain there then....

i run one of my blu rays at 190ma and it gets some long duty cycles of up to 3-6 minutes. this is also in a small pocketpal host with one of robs small heat sinks.

have given it a good run for its money and its still powerful and strong.

im quite impressed with the difference between and 150 and a 190 too!

Yeah, that's exactly it.

We're hobbyists, by default we're already interested in their products. You don't need to do 'in your face' advertising to get our attention, just got to post your products and your prices.

I have one running at 190mA (for six weeks) that I have stopped testing and one running at 200mA (for three weeks now) that I am probably going to stop testing this week.  I just built a couple of smaller ones for sale (a DT0811 @ 100mA and an 803T @ 150mA).  I should probably sell this 200mA one as well.  I need to spend my available time getting these two new ones burned in and tested. ;)

And I agree . . . A 185mW beam is significantly more impressive than a 150mW beam  :o

Of course, the 300mA "accidental experiment" is waiting for the new IgorT lens to burn again. ;)

Peace,
dave
