BB's are way more dense than the hollow empty barrels forcing the barrels to the top of the pile while leaving the heavier BB's to sit and vibrate at the bottom... Im thinking if you were to fill the barrels with the BB's or some how weigh them down you should get some sort of action.

The finish is almost mirror finish direct from the vibratory polisher that hitting it with mothers polish will bring it to a true mirror polish. You'll be picking your teeth in the reflection

I'm not sure its anything to do with density..... in a fluid situation the larger objects will naturally rise to the top - like in with the BBs you put a marble it'll rise to the top...

Because the bbs are more dense. If you have a polisher full of identical sized plastic bbs the marble would be at the bottom.

One possibility for finding better media is if you can get your hands on used conical ceramic stones that are "spent" from polishing steel parts etc. but would still work great on softer aluminum etc.

There might be a shop somewhere in the area that doesn't do much with Al or other soft metals, and has worn out cones for steel they just dispose of.

Exactly. the surface area of the hollow barrel only lessens its density aiding its float at the top..

At any rate.. a decent tumbler should be able to stir the media enough that you get enough action that the barrels would be pulled to the bottom of the drum and mixed around but that'll be another discussion.

I am still concerned about the vibrated polishing in the pictures. It looks like the vibrated one has a lot of deep scratches going around the host from the vibration process somehow. It looks like a very coarse sandpaper were held against it and rotated a few times. I honestly think the unpolished look better than the vibrated one from those pictures.

Is that caused from the hosts rubbing together or is it from the shells and so can not get any better?

Maybe the close up just makes things look worse than they are but I see a lot of dimples if you look close and the scratching that goes around it. The polished one looks flawless (besides the water staining or whatever is on it).

Take a look very close at the first picture where the yellowish light is shining off of it(bottom host is the vibrated one). You can see the dimples. The first one(unfinished) and second one(polished) do not have the dimples.

Am I really the only one that is noticing that?

Since there won't be any other barrels (I'm doing them literally one at a time) you won't see those scratches either. Lets just say that I've got the polishing solved.

The threads. NO! I am done dealing with the threads. I am going to leave them assembled and not even try to mess with the threads as nothing that I do makes any difference and I'm am NOT GOING TO BE BLAMED FOR MESSED UP THREADS THAT ARE NOT MY FAULT. The hosts arrived to me assembled. The threads supposedly are fine, so that is the way that I am leaving them. When folks start having issues with the threads seizing up, don't come pounding on my door.

suffice it to say, that I have spent MONTHS trying to get the barrels to mate up like the first and second run and nothing I do makes any progress and I just am plain fed up. I have literally DESTROYED 3 heads by having to put them in a vice to remove them from the barrel. Plus I've got a total of 9 barrels/heads that I just plain cannot get to thread onto the barrels at all. thats wasted money.

can you anodize them assembled??

How do you keep acid from infiltrating the threads and breaking electrical contact? Or worse yet, not being able to rinse the acid out and risk corroding the threads together permanently?
