*sigh* looks like my 612 finally had its final stroke of bad luck. it got knocked off a desk today at the lab and suprisingly...it didn't smash to 1000 pieces...but the OC broke....it won't light now....

looks like my tiny LOR-006 is now an orphan....*proceeds to put it in a VERY safe place*

I feel miserable now....$300+ and one of my favorite tubes....now gone....FML

guess I can try to salvage the HR, but thats only very small comfort.....
 





yeah, someone knocked it over, we lost a couple of them....unfortunately mine was among them.... someone tripped on it. :( it was underspec, but it didn't deserve an early end. my little one is definitely not leaving my house. ever.
 
You know what to do, right? go back there, but bring my navajo uncle, chief SLAPAHOE. :p

In all seriousness though, sorry for your loss! *places hat over heart*. Theres no way to replace the OC without releasing the gas, is there?
 
Moment of silence for an awesome laser lost. I hate it when something happens and it isn't your fault. If I broke my laser I could accept my actions. Someone else though? Infuriating.
 
yeah...it bent up the forward mount good, and when I tried to bend it back it cracked all the way and the mirror fell off, I felt like my heart was gonna stop on the spot...twice....i'll try to salvage what I can so the loss isn't totally in vain...perhaps I can find an OC somewhere and make use of the HR mirror. since the OC is broken into about 5 pieces. maybe i can have someone custom make one or salvage one from another dead tube.

No it was my under spec lor-161. And yeah I went home early last night, I was beyond tears over it. I loved that tube.... The 609 tube is on v blocks on top of my book case to protect it. As is my lonely lor-006.

Ohhhhh you have no idea... It feels like I watched a friend get murdered. Ironically we were just cleaning up to prevent such a thing from happening...

Its not in a vain. A autopsy will reveal the bore length and diameter, and a proper scan of the mirrors using a good spectrophotometer will tell us much.

I'm about to do that for a dead REO multiline tube. I'm waiting for a machinist friend to drop me off a gauging tool for the bore.

Meanwhile go to a large arts and crafts store and pick up a few wooden boxes to hold the tube. Women love to put certain things in gift boxes to other women. So the larger crafts stores such as "Michaels" stock these unpainted, but well made pine boxes. They have hinges, latches, plenty of room for foam, thick walls, and are CHEAP.

When I started my field service career, the boss ordered me to the arts and crafts stores, for said NICE parts boxes. I felt embarrassed for handing in the receipts, but a year later, those still boxes held up in the toolkit.

I believe it. If I had another OC and some He3 I could attempt repairs. But I don't. However I do have an old IR tube that won't start, and I just tore apart a stabilized head that wasn't working either. So I'll post them soon, I'd like your thoughts Steve, even sam may like it.
 
That is sad. It must have been a beautiful orange laser. This is a good excuse to wrap up all the bare
tubes in bubble wrap and put them in mailing tubes.
 
Something like that. I keep my tubes in the heads. The potting and cylinders actually help protect them in several ways, and aren't meant to be removed. Most of the bare tubes I have, I got that way new, or we're not functioning in their head, so I remived them for the purpose of saving them from being thrown out.
