The Adegan Relic - 5.5W NDB7A75

I have a different lightsaber hilt I am building into right now that will pop up in the BST section soon :eg:

---whoops I wasn't supposed to say that. :D

What do yall think, red or blue?

well crap, this is when we need those 5W c-mounts to still be around. Dangit! or knife edge a few 638's together to get a nice fat red beam. 3-ish watts of 638 would be sufficient, I would say!

Great review as always.
It's funny the part you put on the back that I taped the 8-32 screw for fit the diameter of the handle perfect.

.PS - I am also considering ordering a larger lens to maybe help out with the divergence of this beast as it is a little bit more than I prefer haha. I figure if I order a large lens I could have a custom holder machined that the end of which is threaded like a lens barrel and the portion that holds the lens just looks like a focus adapter. Do yall think that would improve the divergence?

I'd be interested these corrective optics if there was a solution. I noticed a 3element help a little.

Also IssacT, in a previous thread some members and I had discussed the apparent WL. Driven at 3.5A my "angel breath" build was very powerful but still had a purplish hue. (In person it looks blue, but some suspect at that current the WL is truer to spec 445nm).
My question since you are driving yours much more aggressively are you noticing a wavelength shift? Compared to other 445s?

The wavelength is quite similar to 450. Still got dat purplish hue.

Very cool!

It deserves sound effects. Shouldn't be that hard to add a small accelerometer/speaker board inside of it to make the buzzing when you move.

I actually have a speaker I tore out of a Hasbro saber specifically for that but two problems:

It is a boost circuit
The speaker is too big

^ You can probably find a replacement speaker that's smaller.

Great work on this build, it's really unique!

Yeah replacing the speaker wouldn't be a big issue. The main thing is finding a good way to drop the voltage and I would need to put some sort of sound grill in the saber. Lastly I would need a momentary switch as it only uses momentary.

I just measured the Duty Cycle on this laser and it is roughly 2.5min on and 1min off. This has to be the best laser I own! With a heatsink that is roughly 30mm x 70mm though it makes sense! And with the great contact it maintains with the rest of the host I am sure that helps a lot as well!

@Ehgemus: You da man! And I figured since the covertec wheel was made for TCSS hilts that were made to be the same diameter as TCSS blade holders it would also match the hilt you made. The surprising part for me was that it also matched the other hilt that you made perfectly!

Wow. Fantastic job designing and building ! That is a beautiful build. A true coherent work of art. That is setting the building bar pretty high. Congratulations !
Sorry, it won't let me REP you, only give you a beer :)

I think it needs a 1W 520nm diode in there:eg: Anyway, excellent build Isaac!

Awesome build!

The thin beam kinda ruins it for me though. If I were building one I'd have to make an extreme beam expander that brought the beam diameter out to at least an inch, if not 1.5".

Yeah I would have preferred a thick beam but despite how large the host is there is not much unused room in there. I am very satisfied with the way it is. Bear in mind the host matters more to me than the diode so as we get better diodes I will be upgrading this laser.

Making a burning video soon, what should I burn? :eg: So far on the list I will be cutting a dowel rod and a pencil. I will be slicing cheese. I will cut electrical tape. I will show how it burns bricks and cement and metal and I will be of course popping balloons. Anything else?
