Tec popped off of Laserbee

-I made this thread hoping to fix my lpm on my own.

Did I say I expected to have it fixed under warranty?

Sure I would have been great to have it fixed by laserbee for free,
But I realize, in the end laserbee is going to do whatever makes the most money
Just like any other company.

It has nothing to do with J.BAUER Electronics doing whatever makes the most money..

It has to do with who is responsible for the repair costs.
We quoted you a price of $95.00 for re-attaching your sensor
correctly... re-coating the Sensor and re-calibrating it to the
electronics.

Then ~1-2 days later we sent you another offer to do it for $25.00
less and that was still not good enough for you. That is your choice...

By the pics it seems that YOU damaged your Sensor and only YOU
are responsible for any costs to repair it since YOU bought it when
the warranty had already been void for 1 month.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around your motives for opening
this Thread BEFORE contacting us with your LPM concerns...:thinking:

That's why I made the post
There have been LOTS of side remarks from competition and ideas about how the market should work
I was just trying to distill it back to the root

So YOU (as opposed to others herein) accept Lasersbee's position
and are willing to do what you must to fix the LPM (or not fix it as the case may be)
You are NOT looking for a "warranty" repair

You are just looking for ideas that will not cost you as much as sending it back to the manufacturer
Does that cover your position?

It appears that "others" have gotten the thread derailed and "maybe" given a NOOB some illegitimate hope
Originally, he was simply trying to figure out how to repair the LPM himself for very little money
As sometimes happens, the original idea was subverted by individuals with an agenda
It appears that he didn't contact you originally, because he wasn't looking for you to do anything

I have an ardruino laying around,
So I fugure ill try my hand with open lpm, should be fun.

Yeah... that's what I read in the first post but that's not the impression
I got from the PMs from him...

He was trying to convince me in PM that because I had stated
on other member's sales Threads (trying to help other member's
sell their used LaserBee LPMs) that we would supply Customer
Service to the buyer of that used LPM as if he had purchased it
directly from us... that he believed it meant that the used LPM
had a warranty attached to it...
(which it did not as I explained to him in PM)..

Yeah. Part of the confusion in the thread came from the confusion between the terms "customer service" and "warranty."

I'm not sure where the confusion got started, but it was evident

The picture shows that this repair is a VERY easy fix. a little silver epoxy and it's no long an issue. There should be no problems. A simple solution.
 
If the Sensor
was not mechanically damaged in any way it will require
a cleaning and re-attachment and re-calibration.

He should know, he made it...

Redoing the thermal adhesive would chage the thermal resistance
from the tec to the heatsink, and would give off incorrect results
until recalibrated.

also, i did try reattaching it and was getting low lpm results with it.

Use silver epoxy and get the tec back on the
Heatsink. Once that's done you'll get someone to recalibrate the meter.
Quite simple.

That is not true.... unless you are only referring to mechanically
attaching the Sensor without regard to its new thermal properties...

And then the meter is out of Calibration...

You are 100% correct.... whether the sensor is attached onto a
cleaned surface or on top of the old adhesive the Thermal
characteristics of the bond with change making it important to
re-calibrate the LaserBee electronics to the new characteristics...

Quite simple.

Sorry to disagree with you again but this is a LaserBee 2.5W USB
LPM. It can not be re-calibrated by the owner like the much more
expensive LaserBee I... LaserBee IX or LaserBee II.

To reduce production costs... the LaserBee 2.5W USB requires an
electronic interface plugged into an on board connector to re-calibrate
it and that can only be done in our shop.

Ah... I forgot we're talking about a usb device and not the PIC based
Laserbees that use RS232 ports.

as far as putting the TEC back on, sliver epoxy (arctic silver), and or 3M silver epoxy isn't good enough to use?
I though it was some of the best thermo epoxies on the market for sinking?
Just trying to make a suggestion, because the person who bought this LPM doesn't want to spend/invest the money to have someone fix it.

I don't believe he said that the epoxy wasn't good enough
He said that the thermal characteristics would be different
How thick a layer is used?
How clean were the surfaces?
Is it the same epoxy that was originally used?

The variability in those answers would change the speed and efficiency of the sensor and heat transfer

Changes in those things would necessitate re-calibration of the meter

You could alway epoxied the TEC back to the heatsink and measure a laser which has been monitored before. See if the measurement is way off or a little. If it is little then use a small correction in future measurements
You could sent the LPM back to Jerry as last resort. There is nothing more we can do about it on the forum.
