Yeah, what exactly happened? That was some pretty long down time dude o_O

i was scared. i didn't know what to do. i had to actully do stuff at work yuck!!

michael.

Yeah, I kept refreshing every hour, I was out of reading materiel today, what was going on?

still investigating root cause . box just hung, couldnt get in too KVM (blank screen). a server reboot resulted in it working again.

depending on what i find in logs/etc, i may hav my host do a hardware check on the box later

ill keep u all posted
peace

Thanks for getting us back online. Did not know what to do with myself today.

disk appears to be clean after a check and sql tables are fine.

ill keep u all posted

For what it's worth ... a couple of hours ago I did a google search for "laserpointerforms"; specified "within the past 24 hours", trying to get an indication as to what was wrong and how long the forum had been down.

The LAST indication of any activity was "Member List" -> "amy xiu" -> 13 hours ago.

EDIT correction apparantly is was "amy xie".

edit.. im seeing on thing else where in the logs that it might be related to a RAID controller issue. will likely be rebooting server to do some hardware diagnostics

I was on the worried side, and thought that maybe the FDA stepped in and overshot their authority once again and shut the site down.

Glad that's not the case.

The server was definitely not responding though, cause ping requests resulted in 100% packet losses all day. Maybe a DDOS attack? Or a DNS issue with the host?

I see yo'r data center is limestonenetworks, which is kind of funny because I just got an email from them today offering dedicated servers. But, I have mine with iweb out of Montreal and you really might want to chaeck them out. They are a LOT cheaper than limestone, and I've been with them for over 3 years and they've always been awesome!

I googled 'laserporn' for the hell of it when LPF was down earlier & found some nasty links I wasn't aware existed out there.... Let's hope that doesn't happen again

That had ACTUALLY occurred to me too. There's that saying... "Just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean they are not out to get you".

Well that's actually a good thing. I hate unexplained kernel crashes. We see then from time to time at work and they are always a nightmare to try to track down. Our RHEL 5.3 builds were one of the worst. (.128 kernel?). We were seeing the watchdog reset errors quite frequently because of CPU hangs. Never versions of the kernel seem more stable.

host is checking the hardware. brb soon. want to play it safe here. could save a lot of time in long-term to do the checks now to be safe
