Hey everyone. So yesterday I finished my favorite build to date.

It is solid sterling, it is 445nm, and it is beautiful.

This build wasn't easy. I got the host from Stridast for a rather high price, but all things considered, I think I paid $40 in labor for it plus the raw price of solid sterling silver! Further, he does work as a fantasy jeweler, so the intricate detail was incredible. He even studded it with three real sapphires!

The host is built for a single 14500 battery - that's how big this little guy is. To put things in perspective, here it is in my hand:

However, I couldn't find a powerful enough driver to fit in this guy that boosted, so I ended up using one of my new BlitzBuck V4 rectangular boards! It attached directly to the diode and took up about 2/3 of the space in the extended copper Aixiz module I got for my 9mm 445.

I set the driver to 2.1A, which my little IMR14250s can happily deliver! Best news is, when cool, it outputs over 2.5W, and that is with a damaged lens! It really is a strong little beast.

Further, you can definitely tell it's solid silver! Even with being on for only a few seconds, you can feel the heat on the outside of the host and starting to spread along the whole thing!

Is it a tail click host? Are you really getting 2.5W out of 2 14250s (that's sweet)? I was thinking about doing a 9mm 445 in one of the stainless C3 14500 hosts, using an X-drive and 2 14250s, wasn't sure if it would be enough juice. What kind of battery life are you getting?

It is a tail-click host, and yes, I am getting >2.5W out of 2 14250s! It's a 9mm 445 using a BlitzBuck and 2 14250s, and it seems to be able to supply the juice. However, the battery life clearly isn't long =p When they are fully charged, I expect somewhere around 10-15 minutes of run time! XD

If I had a better camera I would have used it :( However, my girlfriend has a better camera. May get her to take some pictures! The beauty is really only evident to the human eye (or a really good camera ;) ).
 
I could have thought it to be a 700-800mW laser but 2.5+ man, thats just crazehh!

Heh. You can really tell it's a high-power device, too. The thermal connection is good between the copper module and the sterling host because I wrapped the module in fine copper wick to A) make good electrical contact and B) to ensure that all of the gaps that can be filled are filled. Then, I added a bit of thermal adhesive to the top of the module so it sticks in there, but boy was it tight. I had to apply all of my body weight to shove the copper-wick covered module into the host.

All that said, because silver is such a wicked thermal conductor, you can really feel the power. It starts to warm up very quickly, which is a VERY good thing, actually! Means that the temperature is equalizing quickly :D

@Strid: I know, right! And it gets a rather impressive duty cycle, too! Over 45 seconds it maintained >2.5W output!

Soo sexy :drool: I've thought of using a silver heatsink in a build but never a silver host! Where did you pick up those cells? I've been searching for some capable rechargeable 14250's for almost a week now
