**(SOLD!)**SF501b 445nm blue laser "as is", plus extras $40

Re: For Sale: SF501b 445nm blue laser "as is". $50

ESD protection isn't that hard to manage. You just tie a wire around your hand and connect it to a grounded object,

YOUCH!!! That could be a great way to end your life as all ESD wrist straps I'm aware of are In series with a 1 meg resistor. Anyone with a wire wrapped around their wrist and attached to earth ground would be in a bad way if they got a hold of a hot chassis. You'd have one end locked to you and the other end probably held in place by involuntary muscle contraction.

Yeah, probably not recommended if working on appliances. For laser work it seems pretty harmless though.

Re: For Sale: SF501b 445nm blue laser "as is". $50

IDK. I have a number of gas lasers that use HV and if I were to have the wrist strap on, as I don't consciously take it off and put it on, and got a hold of a hot/ high side of the AC line it would be bad. Some lasers, besides the pointers, are in collections of a lot of people. It sound dangerous to me.

True, and it's pretty easy to just add in a 1M ohm resister to the wire. Good advice. I'll modify my makeshift ESD strap in such a way.

Honestly, I rarely ever use a strap (even building computers). It's really not all that necessary in home projects if you aren't wearing a jacket/sweater/wool, exercising at the same time, or working on carpet. The way I'll typically handle static buildup is with a metal work suface or tapping a metal lamp before touching semiconductors. Never fried any of the hundreds CPUs, diodes, or ICs I've worked with this way.

Lol....,
Funny you said that, I have a metal lamp on my bench and use it to discharge myself as you do. It works cause I'm occaision, it zaps me with static when the v onditions are right, mostly in the winter when the heat is on. It's kinda like my shrine I pray to before soldering a diode etc. Lol
Danny

Edit:
Not crazy about the idea of strapping myself to a ground to work on electrical devices

AAAaaand getting back to the original topic of the thread....

Laser and batteries and charger are still for sale and awaiting the PM of an interested buyer! :)

Hi Paul,
Hey wouldn't that be called Laser Muscular Therapy ?? LMT...

I suppose. At least for a short period of time, anyway. Rivem Is right if you are in a place that has concrete floors and meal cabinets, but my home bench is on carpet and even though the air is not always dry, it cannot be ruled out.

ADDING ITEM TO DEAL:

My laptop computer just stopped working (monitor died), so now I have a DVD RW drive which contains a laser diode that could probably be put to good use by someone here with the technical knowledge needed. I will include this DVD RW drive with the items listed at the beginning of this thread to whoever requests it to be included.

LED beam. I understand your decison to just be done with this laser after all the frustration in dealing with the crook joker only to then have it die on you. If you don't mind some feedback I think you might have better luck getting a buyer.

Because you haven't diagnosed the problem any potential buyer will have to assume its the more expensive of the two most likely components that failed. The diode or the driver. Also, because Eitan was known to use cheap drivers to save a buck in his later months anyone buying this is going to want or need to replace the driver. Since you never mentioned that you sprung the extra 7$ for the G2 lens this was more than likely a 3 element. Hopefully Eitan didn't screw you as bad as another person here whom sent a 1.8W 445 with the cheap acrylic lens. You may wish to remove the lens and take/post a pic of it. Maybe you do have a G2. If I was the buyer I would require a pic of the lens to ensure its not a now melted acrylic lens.
Here's what you have and although maybe not what you payed is what anyone can get these things for on Ebay. For example that charger sells between $2.02- $5.49 even though you paid 17$

501-b host- $5.50 (fasttech.com)
MC1 Xtar charger- $4.25 (ebay w/free shipping)
Efest 16340 battery qty 2- $11 (ebay w/free shipping)
3 element lens- $8.60 (DTR w/free shipping)
Drilled pill w/brass ring $6 (survival laser usa)
Au heat sink- $7 (survival laser usa)
Contact board- $3
Total- $ 48

So you asking price is what this stuff would cost anyone to buy new less shipping from popular sellers listed. Which is fair but not priced to move so it may sit here for a while and become an off topic thread. If you really want to unload it post a pic of the lens and consider OBO or lowering the price.

Good luck with the sale and sorry this was such a negative buying exp.

If this is the case with all the components you mentioned, why is it that other people on this forum have been able to post and sell the same laser I have? An item can be broken down into it's individual parts and then a price named as a total, but when Eitan was building these and selling them for the price he was selling them for, people said he was selling them too cheap, which caused him to get more orders than he could handle. What I'm doing now is trying to sell it for a very reduced price below what someone could have bought it new for due to the fact it needs a repair. Also, the batteries and charger (and now a DVD RW drive) weren't included when I originally bought the laser.

Also, I highly doubt the lens is melted. The laser worked one day, and simply didn't the next day. There was no sign of lens melting.

First off you may want to stop being so defensive I was trying to help you sell this. Second if you doubt the prices for the components I listed check em out yourself. I looked up every single one and THOSE ARE THE PRICES. I didn't feel the need to add links to every singkle part other than the charger that you payed far too much for.

Yes you are selling the laser at a discounted price because its BROKEN and you don;t know which component failed therfore any seller with a brain must assume its the diode.

The lens Ill repeat myself you should take a pic because if it is a G2 its worth more. But you're too busy I assume to check when its in your best interest.

What you have is a parts bundle and it doesnt matter what sci-fi sold the laser for when anyone on here can simply order these parts for the exact same price you are asking. So if you wish to sell it price it to SELL. Not sit here and argue.

I was also being generous on the prices because I am sure Eitan was using less quality components.

I took time out of my night to help you out. I have also been around and bought and sold many lasers so know that this pile of parts is just going to sit here because most educated buyers know what these parts cost. You added a charger and batteries which was all totaled up in my list, so that's no big incentive. You added a sled and provided no proof of it working not to mention they are a dime a dozen and huge PITA to salvage a diode that you havent even said which diode it is.

I was a cohost of a group buy for those lenses over two years ago and they were going for about $4.00 or $5.00 at the time. Of course that didn't include shipping, but there were a lot of members who were in that GB and remember it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound defensive. I appreciate the time you took to show me the prices of the components. The reasoning I used when coming up with a price is what someone could buy it for used, minus the cost and trouble of repairing it, (with batteries and charger thrown in as well) and I believed a person who knows the ins and outs of lasers and their components and how to build them would see it as an opportunity.

As stated before, I'm also including a DVD RW drive as part of the deal for anyone interested in acquiring the laser diode from it. Here are a couple pics of it. It came from my laptop computer.
