Hi Alex,
Ok i need to machine the adapter for it , so it fits properly.
@SGD.,
I was surprised at what it did to the beam profile also , not to bad on curbing the divergence issue for a 638nm beam.
@ Paul,
I haven't made a RED in a long time so with the BE it willl look cool and the 3X size don't look awkward on the host.

Rich:)

R

Rich, I was wondering if you could take a power reading through the BE as I think it might be clipping the beam as it goes through it.

Hi Paul i will sounds like a good idea, just need to machine an adapter to fit his heat sink.

Thanks, Rich. This is important information about these 3X BEs as the input lens could clip it, or the output lens might as well.

The 3X input is 8mm wide in the clear, so from a 3E or G2 to the 3XBE input I doubt would clip, but it could over expand and clip at the output lens which is 25mm and the expander is actually 3.3X .......actually I would be surprised it clipped much at all.

I see clearance on both sides although from the camera angle it looks like the diode is possibly pressed a bit crooked or maybe the adaptor was not fully seated, or that BE could be out of parallel, but I do see both edges and the 8mm wide input clipping is not likely over that short primary to input distance.

How wide is the exit of a 3 element lens....5.5mm, the divergence out of the primary would have to be ridiculous to clip the 8mm input only what, 1/2 an inch, maybe 3/4 away.

Is the red diode more divergent than the NUBM44 ? it's the same at the worst I do believe.

Here's a NUBM44 with a 3 element printing on a 3XBE, it clears both sides.

Even if a 3 element clips the red diode which they all do, it's part of the reason for the 70% power transmission, it's worth it on my 638nm because it looks so much better, I suppose a G2 could clip, but I wouldn't use a G2 with a 638nm without cyl correction anyway, the spot is a really ugly long line/rectangle.

Hi Red,
Ok for starts this BE has been through the mill, i use it for fitting the threads correctly. The lens are dirty a bit and it deserves a purple heart for giving me service. So as to your superb calculations that i am always interested with. My BE it on borrowed time buddy. Time to buy a few more after the Chinese New Year.

I have 8 of the 3XBE's and one was out of parallel from the start, I will use it's input with my own output lens later. It can happen, but they are great for the price and made a big difference on my 638nm.

this is a nice laser and the Be expander adapter works great. With g2 lens i get over 900mw and with 3 element i get only 600mw as i think it clips the edges of the wide axis. with the g2 lens and the beam expander i get similar divergence to the 3 element lens but with over 800mw. much less loss to get better divergence. i need to order a bunch of beam expanders lol

Hi,
Nice beam shots glad to see it working , looks awesome enjoy it. Those BE are really great for some of the diodes we use.

Well I got the NDB build a few days ago and forgot to post it, I love it! Me and Rich had a discussion the other day about how cool these slow ramp up features are on these drivers, I wish they all were like that, this one has a slow ramp up that takes about 5 second to hit it’s full 2.8 watts and I really like that feature, I would do this to all my drivers from now on but I have no idea how to actually do this :(

Yes, the slow ramp up is great. I hope it will increase the lifespan of these over driven diodes. But, that remains to be seen.

Hi,
Yes i miss this feature on the SXD drivers. Lazeerer used to add tis to the drivers on request and you could choose the time laps of the start up. I wish all the SXD's had this ..

You know it’s funny, I remember a lot of people on here sell lasers because they usually say that it sits forever and they never use it so they sell it, and I always thought I would never let a laser sit and never use it, but that was when I only had 3 lasers now that I’ve got like 20 I find this happening quite a lot, for example I bought a Jetlasers Equality 462nm from Razako about 8 months ago and I’ve literally used it twice, and the NDB build I bought from you I’ve only turned it on a couple times and it will probably sit for 6 months until I use it again,
But I think this is only because as of right now I’m in collecting mode and trying to buy as many lasers as possible because I want to finally say I have a 100 laser collection :D
So I guess the point of this story I’m blabbing about is that Rich, I’ll can’t wait to finally one day have 100 lasers and have a special section or case with just “Richard Builds” lol!
And of course some builds from other members like EP Badboybilly and jayrod to name a few.

Hi,
Here is a nice custom host with a PL520/Flex Drive set to 220mA/G2 lens /1X14500.
140.00 +7.20 2nd Day Priority Mail..
Thank You Rich:)

I wonder why my PL520 build is putting out so much power for the same diode you’re using and mine is supposed to be 220ma driver as well, and when I put my only G2 lens on it it hits around 100mw. Could be that the driver is more than 220ma but I don’t have a way to test it. Unless mine is on the verge of exploding
Anyways rich good luck with the sale :)
