Review of the new 15W LPM from LPS....

I don't think I'd want to be holding on to that little thing with 250W that close to my fingers,or my eyes!

Edit: It's hard to believe that it would measure anywhere near 250W, being that small.

There's a picture somewhere of Pat B (Laserman532 on PL) testing one of his 60W 532nm YAGs with one of these. It was taken at a LEM. Can't seem to find it just now.

Thanks guys....
I did take mine apart and expect no Refund from
Tommy nor will I ask for one...
Rich on the other DID NOT take his LPM apart...
and it also smoked at low powers...
I think if Tommy was a reputable seller that he would
Refund Lifetime17 in full. Tommy should take the hit
for a non-compliant-to-claims LPM not the customer.
I know that I would....

I hope he does go that route. Would be great to have a little pocket LPM that could safely measure up to 15 watts.

As far as the "sweatpants" goes, (read the posts), I'm going to leave that to people with a greater mind than mine. (yep, your right I'm chickening out). lol :)

Besides the problem with the low power coating...
the Thermal mass of that little heat sink inside will
not dissipate the heat from a 15 Watt laser..
Our 10 Watt Newport Thermolpile head measures
2.5" dia. X 1.43" thick and weighs in at 160 grams.

The entire... including the battery and switch and
Enclosure.. of the 15W LPM weighs only 75 grams.
The small 26.9mm X 16.2mm X 11.2mm Heatsink will
NOT dissipate 15 Watts of Laser Power.

Our own 5 watt Heads alone for the AX3 weighs in
at 90 grams.
The logic is there........

Jerry

Manual says: "Only a single measurement can be taken around the 250 W level before the unit must be allowed to cool."

One quick measurement at that power level or it overheats, alarm beeping.

I was aware I was asking the impossible. But Tommy stated the impossible so I was just playing along. (being a smart a$$) :D

Ps, probably shouldn't have, but I have my moments. :tinfoil: :shhh:

Edit; wow! that was real quick;

Hello R. McDonald,

The Power Wizard PW-250 is $995.00 and current lead time is 1-3 weeks ARO.

Thanks! Best Regards,

Yeah the Sinrad is made for high power lasers..
It has zero point of +/- 300mW and resolution
of 100mW... Great for 100-200 Watt lasers but
not quite good enough for under 10 Watts.
It uses the same technology as the DoHicky
that RC linked to earlier...

The LaserCheck would be better but it only
goes to 1 Watt with the attenuator IIRC.

Yup, just posted that as an example. :p It's intended for field measurements of high powered YAG/CO2 etc.

You're correct on the LaserCheck. They're also optical, which isn't always practical.

Again Tommy... I will respond to your Posts in order...

I'm glad that you see that your LPM is not ready for
the Market and that it needs improvements.

You wanted a Review.....
Any reasonable seller of a new product would have
responded to the review with somrthing like.....
We were not aware.... We will quickly find a solution
to the deficiencies and correct them... Thank you.

But instead you argued and attacked the review...
and still Claim 15W Max Power...
I've lost all respect for you and your company by
your Hard Headed responses.....

If this is how you respond to your customer's
complaints by arguing with them that you are
right... then good luck with that...

I've already told you what to do if you want to
sell that product...

Unfortunately... I'm done wasting my $$ and time
with you and your products....

Exactly right--Excellent comments and points 1.) to 10.)---well said and from a professional, high integrity business, and real manufacturers perspective.

Sounds like I jumped in to early and ordered one. Not a real problem. I have wasted so much money on junk in this hobby already. I will just add it to the pile if it ever turns up.

As mentioned before you can simply cancel the order ---why waste the money on what is essentially a "defective" product at this point. Why toss the money in the junk pile?
Put the money to better use or wait to see, if ever, this useless thing/product is revised and quality is improved to the point where it is acceptable for use?

Why is it so many people act like someone selling them something at all, of whatever quality even poor quality, bogus, or defective, is doing them a big favor--go figure?

Hi ,
I really don't want my cash back but rather see a Mini revamped up to specs and available to the LPF members. I spend a 100% more on my tooling all the time to improve my hosts so the folks that buy from me get what they pay for. I just dropped another 200.00 on tooling so i can fabricate a 2X26650 host to see high power demands. Thats not counting what i bought already for this project.

Rich:)

PM's from him he is claiming they are making improvements before shipping anymore out. I will give him a chance.

However, It's unlikely it will ever perform to specs. As mentioned it just can't dissipate that much heat with an internal heatsink.

As I have said thousands of times, we will listen and upgrade in the next generation, but Jerry is too angry to open his eyes. I don't get it, why Jerry is so mad, maybe he is too professional, maybe someone touch his cake, or simply Jerry is always like that.

It doesn't matter any way, the pocket LPM will keep upgrading, LPS will keep providing interesting devices. thank you guys.

Glad to hear you are going to try to make that
underspec LPM better... It really needs it.
As it is it is not Market Ready.
Too bad you cheated 3 people out of their hard
earned money and did not make good on at least
2 of those fraudulent LPM sales.

As to your (again... no factual) accusations of
me being Mad or Angry... You are greatly mistaken.
You have never seen me mad....

I am disappointed that an LPF member would try
to pawn off an obviously Flawed LPM product to
the LPF community just to make a quick Buck and
then continuously Argue that it is as advertised
after it was shown to not to be as Advertised.

All I've seen from you in this Thread about a Review
of YOUR LPM product is attacks and innuendo on me
personally...
Very Professional on your part.....IMO

What I don't understand is why you did not test
your LPM properly BEFORE you took our Money.....

Let me correct that slightly.... I know why you
did that.... :tsk:

I would suggest that you return the other customer's
payments for your Underspec and defective LPM and
make it right.

Waiting anxiously for your New and Improved LPM...

Hi ,
I just dropped another 200.00 on tooling so i can fabricate a 2X26650 host to see high power demands.

Rich
That is the mark of a professional Seller who cares about
his customers.

A long.. long.. time ago when I was working on a production
line for a company... a Supervisor told me that if I take what
I was building and looked at it as if I was the customer...
Would I be happy with my purchase... If yes.. the product
was assembled properly. If No then I didn't do a good enough
job and scrap it.

That is the way products for consumers should be built...
How can I sell something I'm not proud of or would buy...
And definitely don't BS the customer with False Specs..

Putting the build quality aside... If Tommy sold that same
LPM as a Mini Non Broadband 3watt LPM for $29-$49 then
there would be no problems wit the LPM because that
is true and a good price for what it is.

Well this the way I roll if it’s not good enough for me it’s not good enough for the customer or LPF. You need the right tooling to fabricate a functionally and appealing host or full builds. I just dropped over 200.00 on tooling for an2X26650 host I’m working on and until I perfect it it won’t go up for sale. All merchants may not feel the same but that’s were I draw the line. As for Tommy he now knows the upgrades he needs to do to produce a market ready mini LPM and I’m sure he will with all the info in this thread . And also hoping he will come through for all the LPF members here . We need to give him a chance to upgrade this unit

Rich:)
